Track day at Pahrump...Dec 3rd

After scrambling to get every synchro in my tranny replaced in two days by the guys at Ball Mitsubishi and mount and balance a new set of Dunlop SP Sports, I was off to go enjoy a nice Saturday of racing amongst a flock of NSX's some BMW's, one Ferrari 360 Modena, and a couple of Civics and Integras.

But, before that would happen, my upper IC pipe would pop off in the middle of Death Valley at 3:45 in the morning on the way there. I managed to make it to a Chevron station and put it back on, sort of. The rest of the way I had a huge boost leak but made it to the Hotel at about 4:30am.

8:30am Checking in at the track my friends and I were greeted by about 20 NSX's, a couple of Civics and Integras, a Shelby Cobra replica built for the track, one STI, some Z06's and other Vettes, the aforementioned Ferrari, and a fully built for track purposes Viper.

We ran in the B group (novices) since we don't have a lot of track experience, and I have to say we all did very well. I was the only one out there in an Evo after my friend threw a rod in his and put a hole in the block. To sum up the day, it was really cold and windy (42-45 degrees), a lot of NSX's got passed, the Ferrari needed a better driver, I didn't go off the track once, and I managed to drive my ride back with no problems.

Can't wait for next time

The tranny was great, had a little grind when shifting to 4th when motor was at 7000rpm or higher, but other than that it was good. Thank you so much for the quick work. When I saw the recap on all the work done, it reminded me of a huge grocery list. Be sure to stop by Carino's sometime, I'll be sure to take care of you guys.

glad you came out to Pahrump.... to bad you didnt come on Sunday, the 4th... Subaru track day. My day was called short though due to my rear brake pads.

Pahrump is a great trac to learn on.

How was the track surface? I was there about a month ago just after they re-sealed the old part of the track, and I was getting 1/4 inch thick tar build up on my tires. It was like driving on glass.

Was it as cold there as it was on Saturday? The second half of the day my new tires had me sliding all over the place. Wasn't sure if the tires had gotten too hot, or weren't hot enough. I was running them at 35psi when they were cold.

I really liked the new expansion of the track over the old version, the elevation changes were fun for everyone.

Well here is a link to a pic. This is posted on an NSX forum site, unfortunately the guy who posted the pic citing "Evo inclusive" as cars that this NSX passed is inaccurate. Seeing how that Evo belongs to me, and I was only passed once all day by a built Z28 on slicks with a decent driver, I gotta say that the poster of that message didn't know what he was talking about.

The mornign was cold... the afternoon it warmed up and alot of my friends were pulling personal fastest laps ever there.. so the track got alot quicker, really wish I would have stayed.
