I'm starting to believe my own track-crack theory even more now...
every one of my many are from rock chips and all on the road, it's a fact of life here in Colorado. I haven't noticed the grow at the track either. Not saying it's not true but it's just not the case with my car. Every time I think of replacing it someone throws another rock and chip it some more (I duck every time !), so on it stays until one is in the way and starts to annoy me

Just developed my "track crack" after this weekend's event down at PMI. In a year of driving/living here, I did not develop one despite the tendency for it to happen more often on CO roads, but I definitely went to the track with no crack and drove home with a crack coming out of the passenger side edge of the windshield. It's not too big, but I'm just worried about not passing tech. They don't allow you to run at PMI for drag racing if you have a crack in your windshield, but the PMI officials don't perform tech when it's a NASA road course event, so I have to see if NASA cares.

I broke two windshields last season, One I clearly saw coming (and I ducked as well) at turn 3 at Summit Point where everyone kicks up rocks, but the second did not appear to have an impact point and it started on the passenger side bottom and worked its way up, I believe that was at Pocono.

Marty,

does the SCCA allow you to run the windsheild with any cracks in it? i'm getting the car preped for NASA ST racing this year and i'm not sure if its going to be a problem in tech.

Yes, but for the first tech of the season, I made sure I had a fresh windshield. I did get told at one race to get it fixed or they would not let me run next time out, But, that was the impact crack that went right across my vision. I ran at the runoffs with the crack going up the passenger side and was pulled in for a tech inspection after quals but the crack wasn't even mentioned.

Thanks... what a pain its going to be if I need to replace 2+ times per year...

Great, if Marty passed tech in a race with a passenger-side crack, then I'm not going to rush to fix mine.

I have a similar crach on the bottom right side, not from tracking (I dont think), but I am just waiting to see if it grows towards the passenger side or my side.

I have a good smash right in the center of my windshield thanks to the rubber bedded in the track at NHIS. Going down the straightaway kicks up a lot of crap. It's just unavoidable.
