my dust shields have been off since the start. i did read some one claim removing the shield offset the caliper, if it does it is not much of an issue

The shield isn't even bolted to the caliper. It has nothing to do with the mounting points of the caliper.

I could see how that is a possibility from heat but I don't think the dust shields do much about keeping the heat away from it. I have had my shields off for over a year, 7+ track events and 30,000 miles with no problems whatsoever.

yes it does. the shields mount BETWEEN the caliper and the hub assembly. so yes the caliper will be off by the thickness of the shield. theoritically the pistons should just center themselves after the first time you brake and you shouldn't get any odd wear issues.

that said, i've cut my shields back but left a small piece just to cover the abs sensor(i've heard of a couple people melting them) and since i kept that on i cut a tab off the lower mount point of the shield. sort of like a washer that i keep in just so i don't have the caliper angled(shield under top bolt but not bottom).

btw i have...

brakes:
alcon 6-pot monoblock
355mm rotors
ferodo 3000 f/r
goodridge lines
motul 600

suspension:
ohlin r/t
425/525
cusco front camber plates
works rear bar
-2.8
-1.0

5Zigen FN10R-C 18x9.5
275/35/18 ra-1's

You're right Sean, I was thinking of another car for some reason. Oopsie.

haha, for a minute i thought that the '05's might be different than my '03.

it is good to hear that you haven't had any problem with the abs cable though. because it's just more hassle to go through to keep having to put those pieces back in. i'd like to just lose them all together.

Yea, I used some good industrial zipties on the ABS sensor line and they haven't even melted! I am amazed. I am however going to safety wire them soon just in case.
