Not I.

I did just get a nod from Racing Brake to try out their new 850 compound. I had tried their 700 when they first came out and they did well at temp, wore well and were kind to the rotors but just did not give me the torque that I want.

As such I asked them about the difference between their 800 and 900 compounds as I wanted MORE bite but did not care to go to the 900s as I had heard they were hard on pads if I could avoid it.

They came back and said that they had developed the 850s in the hope of giving most of the performance of the 900 in a bit friendlier pad that could also work better at lower temps. In other words you could actually use it to drive to and from the track!

I'll let folks know how they work as they are rather affordable when put next to some of the other big boi pads.

Is there anyone in here with the titanium shims?

I would really like to know if they do indeed protect the dust boots and piston seals.

So far the only negative I can find is that they might not fit with new pads. I know my XP12s were very tight when fresh.

I was looking at the Mistu air guides and really don't think they do anything. The dust shields pretty much prevent fresh air feed via that method. I'm afraid to remove the shields for fear of melting ABS wires. Anyone know of a product that would protect those wires from the heat?

If you dont want the full ducting kit heres what I would do. Buy the mitsu air guides and take out the stock dust shields. Then call up Chad at CBRD and order some of his gold racing foil and wrap the abs line in that and ziptie/attach the lines to wherever you prefer. Should work pretty well for how little it would cost.

I just installed the AMS brake ducting kit - have an event this Friday, but the temps are suppose to be cool. Gotta wait until June/July see the effects....

Sorry - RS; no ABS.

Lets talk about dust shields......

Wouldn't it be better to trim them down using a dremel? That way the lines would still have a mounting point and be blocked from line melting heat.

I did a search for heat reflective tape/foil and found a bunch of hits. To my surprise they were fairly cheap.... about $10 for 10 feet. I'm not sure if I trust the foil or not but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

Is it possible to fry the ABS sensor or just the wires?

Does anyone have XP with the 777's or 999's from Project Mu?

I am wanting to buy a set of pads - I am leaning towards either. I've used a set of Titan Kai's and love them (I know the 900i's are their replacement), but I'm looking for more of a track-only pad.

Protect/wrap the balljoint too, if you remove the dust shield.

I am running front Ti shims - but just got them.

I'd also not recommend the Mitsu air guides. I'd go with the Forge or AMS kit and actually force in the air. I put on the Forge kit myself.
I ran PFC01's last year with the stock rotors and no cooling in midwest heat and everything came out ok. Rotors are all still in good shape. There were some tracks where I could get a squishy pedal pretty quick - just depending on the track. I knew I was needing some cooling, so I attached that in the off-season. Note that I've never ran > 25min sessions - for the sake of the trans/brakes/tires.


My full brake setup for this year:

Hawk DTC60 Front pads & PFC01 rear Pads (rear left over from 07)
SS Brake Lines
Front Ti backing shims
Motul Fluid
SP front slotted rotors
Forgeline Brake Cooling Ducts
17x9 5zigen FNO1R-C
255/40-17 Nitto NT01

Ya know, I've read a lot of people seem to have heat problems with the XP pads.

That seems to draw a lot of interest!

A direct comparison is going to be difficult, as I changed so much on my car since 2007. But I'll give you a quick overview from my first event last weekend with the DTC60's in front.

I used the PFC01's last year and really liked them. The only gripes I had were overall heat during a long session and the severe on/off characteristics of the pad. If you search this forum, I put in a lot of details throughout the pad life on those. It took some getting used to, but I still thought it was difficult to ease into those pads - which is probably just related to my driving style.

So for 08 I went with a ton of upgrades including air cooling ducts and a different front pad. After talking with Drew @ GTWorx he suggested the DTC60's as they are very similar to the PFC01's with a bit less initial bite. So far I'd have to agree with that statement. Oh, and they're cheaper too!

4/4/08 trackday - I was able to get into the new pads with as much force as I wanted and had no squishy pedal or overheating issues. It was in the 40's and I ran 8 short sessions all in one day to test out different suspension (and camera) settings. I did notice some high-speed rear-end squirm that bothered me when braking down from about 120mph. I think this is in regards to my much stiffer rear end spring rates and my habit of trail-braking. I eliminated my trail-braking and the issue all but dissapeared; or I just got used to the small amount of squirm. I was forced to trailbrake last year in order to rotate the car as I was running stock suspension with Swift springs.

For me I care more about the optimum performance vs how they do at the ragged edge. I think that the cooling mods will pretty much make some of your old issues a wash. For me, I am looking for higher ultimate torque with good control and modulation. I have yet to try either of the pads above and they are pretty much the two I will choose from if my new pads don't work.

I look forward to seeing how these RB850s do as if they work they are a very cost effect solution.

I placed an order for the titanium shims. I have brand spanking new brembos so it will be clear to see if the shims truely protect the dust boots.

I haven't decided whether or not to remove the heat/dust shields. I really dislike the idea of melted parts.
