(I have the Vishnu ohlins for suspensions means it should be comparable to other suspension choices available in the street class).

My car basically only has a reflash (for 100oct) along with exhaust (limitations of running TTB in NASA). Since the rules don't dictate any restrictions for power, does this mean a replacement turbo is the bare minimum to stay competitive? Haven't been to these events before, want to find out if its even worth it, thanks for the 411.

Well, the man to beat in Street AWD is Nils, so you know your competition. Its worth it to go for the experience, even if you can't be competitive. Its not like you are competing for $10,000 or anything. Its just a plaque, and contingency money if you are running any parts from the contingency sponsors.

P.S. - The only thing that sounded newbish in your post is your concern for horsepower. Driver skill, setup, suspension, brakes, and aero are all more important than horsepower in track racing. Horspepower helps alot, but only if you have the right setup to use it. So just come out and have fun

i won overall street tire class last year with about 300 to the wheels... this year I got more power though, so we'll see.

Tires & dampeners are way more important for quick lap times at buttonwillow.... the California Speedway event is really the high HP event of the year... that is where big brakes & high HP will win it for you.

Looking forward to seeing you all out there...... even you Barfly

sin,
I appreciate your response and honest opinion but lets analyse my concern for power a little more.

When competing in any series there are two steps to optimise before the actual driving. Those are rules and setup.

Rules should be analysed to figure out where the biggest performance variables are which in turn determines the setup to run.

After looking through the rules the biggest variable is power. The street class limits both the tire and the suspension which theoretically caps the handling but does not limit power. Power is the biggest variable. Obviously everyone knows that a properly sorted suspension is invaluable but the biggest variable, power, has to be comparable before competing is worthwhile.

Ive been to buttonwillow multiple times before and while its no cali speed way with its banked sections its more like thunderhill than infineon or HTM/SOW as far greater emphasis on powertoweight.

Good luck this year guys. Look forward to hearing more about the competition this year.

I understand where you are coming from but ask yourself this then. How much horsepower can the tires and suspension allowed in street class handle? Thats your answer. Street tires and 800whp don't mesh well.

If I were to build an evo strictly for the redline track events time attack it would have somewhere between 350 and 400 at the wheels tops.

nils,
Which street tire did you use? For the 140 treadwear range id imagine Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R or Falken RT615?

wish i could, but would have to swap out the motons to run street. looks like i will be running modified. i don't mind. i won't be able to take the modified class, but will hopefully get a podium spot in the AWD division. thankfully, i will have 2 less guys to contend with. now if i can just get percy to run street as well.

the top modified AWD was 8 seconds slower than the class winning NSX at the last BW event. Nils street winning time was also 4 seconds slower than the NSX modified time. i'll do what i can.

Ryan, from what I saw, your car was efffin fast. I have no idea why you'd run street. You'd massacre everyone in the straights lol.

And also, if you run R compounds, you're already placed in Modified correct ?
