APR Evo IX Splitter failure...
I have an APR front splitter on my Evo IX -- it's been on the car for about 4 track days and a few hundred miles of street driving. I have the fiberglass version, as the carbon parts were on backorder when I ordered my splitter, diffuser, and rear wing.
Unfortunately the front splitter appears to be made pretty poorly, as it's completely falling apart. Only contact I've ever made with it is very mild front rubbing on the nose going into my driveway. Never abused it, but it seems that that mild contact has been enough to cause the part to crack.
The splitter is cracking where the flat bottom meets the front edge. Interestingly enough it is not cracking where it has rubbed, but instead it is cracking on either side of the middle. This basically means that it is coming apart and probably won't hold up for much longer. On top of that, the splitter has broken completely where the driver's side rear edge attaches to the bumper cover and the wheel liner. Not good.
Is this common? Anyone else have these issues?
I always thought APR were race parts and not show car parts, butthis is making me doubt them. If someone has a contact at APR I would greatly appreciate it. I'd like to reach out to them and ask how the carbon piece is constructed and see if it is any better made than the fiberglass part. If it isn't, I'll have to look elsewhere for a good splitter.
Thanks for looking.

Bought the APR GT wing, FRP diffuser, and the splitter off of a small vendor here on the boards. They were the only one who had all of the parts in stock when I was looking. They probably wouldn't be much help in contacting APR.
For reference, I did send APR a note through their web site. I haven't called them as I only discovered the damage this weekend.

Peter -- First off, I really enjoyed your blog...Looks like your car is nicely setup (I especially like the cage and would love to get the shops contact info...)
As for the APR splitter, that is unfortunate and it appears that it is more show than go ...Have you seen the thread about the undertray / front splitter that is being designed by some guys on evom? That may be a better option for you. The other option would be to have your shop fab you a nice splitter (that was what we did in the late 80s / early 90s with our 911 GT cars)....You just need to make sure it is to code (per whatever race series you are running)...Generally it cannot extend more than a few inches in front of the front most part of the bumper...That said, if there are no guidelines more is better...Good luck with ARP.

I'll post some pics tonight. If I can't find something reasonable off the shelf, I'll fabricate my own splitter out of alumalite.
As for the cage, the work was done by Tony Colicchio at TC Design. They do amazing work; including cages and custom fabrication, and they have experience with BMW, Porsche, Mazda, Honda, Corvette, and now Mitsubishi. They were part of the factory BMW Diesel entry at last year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
