APR Front Splitter install (the right way)

So to start let me thank Jeff from 500whp.com for an awesome price on this splitter shipped to my door.

I looked at a few lips for my viii and this splitter seemed like the best choice for a few reasons. My car is lowered on Megan track coilovers and I didn't want an aftermarket lip to sit any lower than the stock bumper. Also, it is functional for a few reasons. It should create some down force on the front end but it also covers the under-carriage from the nose all the way to the front wheels.

NOTE: Any one who has complained or told a story of this splitter ripping off the car at high speeds I think I know why. If you install this splitter with what is provided you should expect this to happen to you Their is not enough stainless steel washers to go with the bolts and locking nuts. I went to Lowes and bought 20 more of these washers. This was another $7bucks buying them in packs of five....and maybe that is why APR sends half the amount you should be using. You need a washer under the splitter and over the bumper at every point your fastening...the holes in the splitter and the bumper are just to close to the same size as the bolt and nut.....................and it would only be a matter of time before they were pulled through the splitter.IMO!!!

The splitter covers a good portion of the front of the car. I am happy to get rid of the stock underpanel tray....and while this does not cover the same distance all the way back it should still act as a protector barrier for under the engine.

NOTE: I am running the Buschur Racing Race core with larger lower and upper i/c pipeing with t-bolt clamps and everything clears fine. The only area that is tight is my lower i/c pipe rests on the splitter slightley.

Also, I am running the BR turbo back (3 inch down pipe) which clears with about two to three inches to spare.

So over all I am very pleased with this product. I only had one hole on the entire splitter not line up..so I had to drill it out a little more (no big deal) Also the holes that needed to be drilled for the rods were easy as can be. Just start with a small bit and keep going larger so you don't splinter the carbon fiber and fiberglass.

The car is still on jack stands since im currently installing my jdm ix bumper as well....so final pics were taken in my dark garage but you get the idea.

Looks really good, you can put those rods pretty much anywhere you want them to look good right?

The rods are 100% functional. Once installed you tighten them and it pulls the middle of the splitter up...I may have pulled it up a little to much, but I know you don't want the middle to sag at all...than you tighten the bolts and it holds the rods at that tension. Also, it is a secondary mounting area to hold the damn thing on the car at high speeds

I didn't mean that, I would imagine they are functional, but there isn't a specific location for them, since I've seen them mounted differently...thats what I meant lol

Closer to the middle is best IMO b/c the most air pressure is centerline at the bumper and splitter. So that chosen spot for the rods extremely functional for added support where most of the downforce will be created compared to the rest of the splitter. Awesome install. Looks extremely clean and the black accent of the splitter is really nice to the eye. You will love what it'll do for you at high speeds for stability. Now get that jdm bumper on and get some good sunlight pics for us all.

sorry for going off topic, but can you run that intercooler with the crash beam? it looks like you don't have yours installed

Actually, I tried cutting just the middle of the crash beam out...but it became so flimsy I just cut it in two pieces. It still attaches on each side where the crumple zones are....just not in the middle where the intercooler sits. I think it would still work on low mph collisions on each side of the bumper but if I hit something dead center (like a telephone pole ) my BR intercooler would be a goner for sure!

wtf are you talking about??? The rod isn't creating some dramatic support to keep this splitter on the car. The bolts all around the bumper and into the center bracket under the engine (attached to the frame) is what keeps this thing in place. I was posting about the washers needed to give extra support in all these various mounting locations. The rods just keep the splitter pulled to an upward angle. Why would they break off easy unless the whole splitter was pulled right off the frame

I sure hope your wrong.
