I think the most recent fast-track (rules publication) just opened up 2-piece rotors that are the same size or bigger than stock. it allows for a progression from the street tire classes. You are not allowed to down size the brakes, but the allowance of 2-piece rotors opens a lot of options for brakes.

Oh god, no

Okay - i'm on a budget so what are some things to go with that'll give me a good upgrade? So far i have BR coilovers, a Hotchkis rear sway bar and i'm running the OEM wheel / tire set-up. I'm going to try for 255's, upper and lower IC piping and a mini battery kit when i get back from Iraq next year.

My events i took part in this year was a sixth (before i got the coilovers dialed in) and two seconds ( to pretty much two ringers) so i am really excited about going for it all next year and contending for the class title.

See everyone next season.

So. with the majority of the season behind us, any BSP racers care to share what has and has not worked for them, any new discoveries made, and any opinions/experiences on what makes for a winning BSP setup?

Works

Looking ahead
Getting on the gas earlier than you think humanly possible
Being aggresive--but not too aggressive
(note that these are all non-parts )
TRE diff rebuild
Really stiff spring rates

Questionable

Whiteline bump steer correction kit

Definitely bad

R comps that have way too many heat cycles

That's a well-rounded set of facts chmodlf.
how many heat cycles are "too many?"

BTW: are you part of, affiliated with, or friends with the Holunfie crew?

The heat cycle number is a grey area. Personally I use a set of tires for the whole season, or until they chord. I noticed that after say 20-30 runs they had fallen off (V710s). If you want to be fast, fresh rubber is crutial.

I have met and raced against a few of the Holunfie group. That is a pretty exclusive group. I don't know if I am cool or good enough to get in

Your works section is spot on. I had to train my codriver to get in the gas super early. As for spring rates, mega stiff isn't the sheezy, IMO. Unless maybe you are on concrete.

Whiteline bumpsteer kit is def not legal for SP.

R-comps w/too many heat cycles are worse then good street tires!!!

As for holunfie, it is really built around a group of friends more than a collection of random good drivers. We happen to have alot of fun really pushing each other.

Do you think 850 lb springs are too stiff?

I have the same rates as you, I believe.

I went to Devens yesterday and felt like I was ice racing or rallying on gravel at times...

I was joking. We have our own version of Holunfie. It revolves around going fast, exchanging info, being silly and occasionally enjoying vitamin B

From the 2008 SP rules

C. Suspension bushings may be replaced with bushings of any
materials (except metal) as long as they fit in the original location.
Offset bushings may be used.

The Whiteline Rear bumpsteer is an offset bushing. Are you referring to the roll center kit for the front? That is legal for SM and not SP.

hahaha...ok here it is

it's 3 syllables

ho-lun-fie
ho = hoe, as in back hoe
lun = fun with an l
fie = is like semper fi

It's basically cantonese for very-f'in-fast.

Used in context: Jarrod and Andy were holunfie. You guys were pretty damn fast on thurs/fri at nats. Edit: There is no membership. We have no dues. Just a cone killer requirement. At a recent autox 3 holunfie drivers hit a total of 64 cones! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Leo,

Sorry about the bushing mixup, I thought you were referring to the front roll center thingy.

As for spring rates I don't consider mine mega stiff, some people maybe do. Very weird watching the different cars at topeka. The Berry car is very flat and almost looks to have a more compliant rear. That thing actually lifted a front inside wheel while accelerating through an offset. My car tends to pitch and roll a little more than that one. Setup must be relatively close as times indicated. I'm up 100lbs and down some HP, that only leaves the chassis to keep it close, IMHO. We were on same tires, same wheels, similar dampers, diff's are the same (I think they are running TRE rear) except center. They are on ACD and I have 50/50 OEM viscous.

I'm still gonna keep playing with it since there is def a gap there which needs to be trimmed down. Probably won't be on the forum too much coming up as work is quite busy and I owe the family some time. Looking forward to next year though.

Okay I see how is is... you guys and your spring rates are on a "need to know basis" you don't need to tell me YOUR rates, but I am curious how you think 850lb. springs are for 285/30/18 V710s or A6s. For the reconrd, I don't even run BSP, I run STU, so if you are comfortable telling me, please PM me.

I thought Holunfie was like "Haul' On Fi'(re)" or something. I love the blog BTW, keep it up
