Racer license?
Racer license?
I wanted to know if anyone has a racers license. Do you need one to go to the track and does it look like a regular license. Is it the same thing as a nasa or scca membership?
Licenses are generally for "racing" which means wheel-to-wheel or time attack. If you go to a HPDE, it's a "driving event" not racing and only requires a normal driver's license. The license is generally granted by the organizer of the race, i.e. an SCCA race requires an SCCA competition license (not simply a membership). I know for the SCCA it's fairly expensive to get a license, and you have to do 2 races per year ($$$) to keep it.
I don't think an SCCA license is expensive. I went to the CalClub Super School at Willow Springs last weekend, which cost $440 and was an absolute blast. Fee for Novice Permit was $110, so the whole think cost $550 so far. After I run two races at Buttonwillow in March, I will be eligible for my Regional Competition License.

Depends on who issues it. It may just be an entry in their computer system that says you're ok to drive at events. Its not like a driver's license. Its just a way for a club to keep track of people and say, "We think this person is not a complete idiot who will wreck everyone else's cars on the track." Unless you're in Spec Miata.
