Just out of curiosity, I tried to compare the above videos to the ones Geoff posted. The only thing I noticed was pinkertonpunk going to third on the west course. I always wonder what Geoff could do in a similar set up IX...

What do you mean by a similar setup IX? The gearing is taller on Evos, so it isn't as necessary to shift. Maybe Geoff will chime in, I am not sure what is does in 2nd gear.

I was on the rev limiter for 7 or 8 hits in that section so I don't think there would have been any advantage shifting into third there in an 8 or 9. I'm just glad Colin was a little deep into that section otherwise we would have been further behind.

Yeah, I noticed a couple spots I could improve on, but for the most part I didn't make any huge mistakes. I thought after that run if I nailed a run I could have been in the 42s, but it would take a perfect run. I can post my 1st run where I didn't shift later, it is hard to tell how many times I banged the limiter.

Yeah. I hit the limiter (7850) too and I'm S.LO.W.

I agree, there was a high 42 out there. My personal opinion is that if you would have been tighter on the right hander preceding the third gear stretch and broke earlier that would have been closer. I didn't watch too closely to see what you did after the sweeper or slalom because you should have been all over the rev limiter at the finish, especially in your STi.

My quest for a 42 was lost in the wave at mom turn on EVERY run......

I felt my entry to the straight could have been slightly better and I could have braked a bit earlier. Although the way I drove that corner was kinda how I was walking it, so I wasn't too far off where I wanted to be. After the wallom or walls, whatever you want to call them I clearly tried to turn in too early and had to turn back out and lost time there. I was on the limiter through the finish, but you can only hear that I hit it 3-4 times maybe. I think I could have done that section a bit better, I don't feel like I ever nailed it.

Sorry, I wasn't commenting on gearing... just curious if he could be faster in a IX versus his 03 VIII.

That's right, I forgot he was driving an older Evo. I will have to watch his videos again with that in mind. I haven't driven either enough to really know. The one time I drove an VIII it sure seem like it really needed a front LSD. Not sure if it is as big of a deal on an STU car.

I think the VIII's are turning out more competitive than we first thought in STU. The viscous center diff may be more predictable, the smaller turbo spools up quicker, and they're a little lighter. 4 of the top 8 in STU were VIIIs.

No question the IX has way more power potential for BSP and SM. Although kekek did pretty well.
