How did your car do against the 2 x FP Zs, 914-6 - all of which have previously trophied nationally? I know your tires were old.. but still.

Tom Holt finished first. My 2-day combined time was .04 sec behind him. I rushed to get the car finished for this event and had no idea it would be as light as it was. Since we were definitely underweight, we had no option but to disqualify ourselves from the competition. But kindly, Tom and the rest of the FP field let us run for the practice on day 2.

We were very happy with the result considering the major rebuild done on the car and no pre-testing. We'll show up at Nationals and see what we can do.

There was a thread, i forget where, posted a long time ago that was attempting to list out what each part weighed for the typical stuff you rip out to make a race car, i must say we are all prolly as shocked as you that interior bits and replacement external facing parts did THAT much. Can you elab. on anything else you found? Engine parts, subframe, things that would normally get bypassed?

I used all the Evom weight lists you are referring to, in keeping a pretty careful list of the weight changes I was making. The only thing significant that is not on these lists, was removal of the fuel tank (heavy) and replacing it with a 4-gal fuel cell. To save money on doors, I kept the stock pieces but cut about 30lbs out of each door. In addition to cutting away the inside door panels, I cut 32 holes in each front door and 40 holes in each rear door.

I also replaced hood with a 5-lb skin and took my cheap carbon trunk, cut away the fiberglass undersupport (getting it down to 7 lbs), and mounted both with Dzus fasteners (deleting hinges front and rear). A few hundred hours of labor were used to make all the FP changes.

I don't see the need for a cage in a full dedicated autocross car although it would be suicidal to run that car anywhere else. Impressive build, good luck .

This will be a dedicated autocross car and will never see a road course or drag strip. That would be way too risky for my blood. I also only participate in Solo events using SCCA standard requirements for course setup, not some of these wild things seen on the Internet that are labeled as "autocross".

^Indeed. Alright sorry for so many q's but i'm going through the same thing atm, but for road racing so don't worry about compt. As far as the windows are concerned, did you do lexan all around including the back window? I've heard mixed feelings on Lexan that it's so easy to f* up from rocks and scrapings from *normal* use at a track. And i've also heard that there is some special or different plastic other then lexan that weighs as much but is more resistant?

Was any stitch welding or other chassis reinforcement done? With all the material that was removed, do you think that chassis rigidity was reduced at all?

A few more pictures. Thanks to Mark and Sebastian for letting me take pictures of this amazing car.

Here you can see the steering wheel and the original gauge cluster with a column mounted boost gauge. I wonder if the fuel gauge works.

Like an astronaut returning from orbit. It's hard to not be happy when you're driving a rocket-fast FP Evo!
