Traqmate hawtness - why it rules
I've been wanting one of these for a while, but a $1000 on tires here, $1000 on entry fees there, $1000 on a datalogger...pretty soon you're talking real money!
My poor man's "dot race" is opening multiple YouTube windows of in-car video, syncing them at a particular part of the track, and then pressing play on all of them at once. This is actually surprisingly effective at comparing different drivers, or yourself on different days.

I used to do the same thing. I actually went into Final Cut (high-end video editing software for Macs) and did 50% opacity overlays so I could see the footage right on top of each other.
This is nice to be able to put metrics and data behind what you can see from in-car footage etc.
Here are some pics of what my wife calls the "Trackometer" installed in my car. I always remove my center console on track days so I can clip my harness in so I mounted the Traqmate sensor unit to the console mounting bracket. The Display Unit is mounted on the steering column for easy viewing. Everything is held in place by super strong Velcro. Put a few strain reliefs in the cables, and some management with zip-ties and called it good.

as a G2X owner and regular user here are some things ive noticed about it.
the display in the "normal" 1K package has very bright red display. They are easily picked up by my non-hd video camera. there are software packages to overlay data into video but this is by far the easiest and gives me an additional incentive to review video at the track.
G2X can be flashed to enable predictive lap timing as well. Its updated about every second and will give you feedback throughout a turn.
The G2X software is archaic compared to the traqmate though. End up spending much more time for the same analysis on the G2x compared to traqmate. If after track analysis is important than traqmate is the handsdown winner. If you want feedback closer to the track, its much closer between the G2X and traqmate.
Course if i had the option to have all three before buying one i might be singing a different tune (ive used a friends traqmate).
