I tend to agree. I would like to know what the intended effect of this part is on a flat splitter element? I know the end plate is functional on the Voltex splitters because the Voltex unit has approx. a 12* AOA in that area. The end plate forces air to flow over the wing rather than sliding off the end of it . . .

Thoughts?

I found the article I mentioned several posts ago. It's in the September 2008 issue of Racecar Engineering under the Aerobytes column, written by aerodynamics consultant Simon McBeath. I will scan the article and post it up tomorrow.

The splitter acts as surface area for downward force resultant from the high pressure area at the front of the car. The end plates should help maintain the high pressure at the absolute edges of the splitter. ( I made that up).

I made them that wide because my tires hang out in that area with the race wheels on. I'm going to add some air-dams on the leading edge of the wheel wells to cover the tires up and I think that will come pretty close to the endplates.

Can you share why you chose to have the slot in the end plate? It looks a lot like the recent Voltex units. . .

Good engineers copy smart people. F1 cars use the same sharp edges to create vortices.

Here's a picture of what it looked like when I first mounted it with my original air dam.

Hanging from 4 cables, and 5 bolts to the chassis. It's setup to adjust between -2 degrees and zero. A change in spacer blocks can make it go from -4 to -2 degrees as well. But that gets it pretty low at the tip. I'm going to start at the -2 to zero range.

Jid2, are those connection points in the middle the same location as the stock bumper screw holes? Any other closeups?

Thought I'd post up my splitter build. Did my first event last weekend and it seemed to work pretty good.

I think I just eyeballed them in a place that looked about right. It's not super critical, I see guys running 10 billion supports and I don't think it's needed unless the splitter material itself cannot support any real loads. 4 points should be enough.
