Lightweight race tire

So I have spent hours and mucho dinero on a set of lightweight Volk CE28N wheels and now I want to find a lighter weight set of racing slicks so I don't erase the gains I made by buying lighter weight wheels. For now we are planning to run 245/40/18 slicks and dot slicks when required. Do tires vary significantly in weight from brand to brand even in the exact same tire size? If so, what are some lightweight options out there? I've looked through the forums and haven't seen much about this anywhere. Any help as I start exploring different options would be great!

I'm running yokohama A005 tires on my 18x9 wheels and the tire weighs 18.8 lbs. I can't tell you how that compares to other slicks though

Tires definately vary in weight, and race tires usually weigh more.

I know that the yokohama slicks weighed considerably less than the Azenis 615s that I had on before. Around 5-8 lbs less actually

Have you guys found it easy to get tire weights from tire dealers when you order the tires? I have asked before and the guy looked at me like I was crazy...

IMHO I wouldn't care much about the tire's weight as much as i would for their ability to grip. What I mean about this is that if the one that weighs the most actually gives better grip in a wider range of temperatures (which translates into not having to wait a few laps to get the tires up to temp.), I would go with that one.

It will definitely be a balance between tire performance and weight. I would like a little bit of both worlds.

FWIW Tirerack typically lists weight for each tire in their spec sheets. They also sell the popular DOT slicks (V710, R6, A6, Hankooks, etc).

If you have spent hours and mucho dinero on a set of lightweight Volk CE28N wheels and now you want to find a lighter weight set of racing slicks so you don't erase the gains you made by buying lighter weight wheels, than you have wasted your time. I dont know of a single racer who spends time to look for lightweight tires to match his lightweight wheels. I use tires that win me races, not tires that weigh the least.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Its seems to be very difficult to find tire weights. What race tires are comparable in wieght to the Advan a005, under 20lb a piece 17's included??

A tires grip and feedback are much more important than the weight. Forget about the weights, and concentrate on what's fast for you and your car.
