Anyone Running 285/18 Tires on Evo 8 ??

Hi,

I'm running BFG R1 tires, 265/35/18's on 18x9.5 @ 27mm offset,
Enkei NT03+M wheels, on my Evo 8 for track use.

My fenders are rolled and I can't seem to fit anything larger.
My camber is set at -3.0F / -2.0R.

I know I've heard guys running 285 Hoosiers.
How can I do this without putting on a wide fender kit?

Will a different offset wheel help?
Will 10" wheels fit?

...lots of questions...

Thanks.

I haven't done it, but I know a member that ran 285 Hoosier R6's on a 18x9.5" rim. Not sure what the offset was but he didn't have any time of widebody kit or anything. It was an Evo VIII.

I'd love to find out how he did it.

there's nothing different between an evo 8 and 9 in terms of fitting tires. you have the wrong offset wheels for the rear. with a 9.5 et 35 wheel we barely fit and you're a full 1/4" further out at least.

Perhaps a 35 offset would fit better, but the 27's do fit.

Regardless, I'd like to sell the two sets of wheels that I have now anyway,
and get either a different offset wheel or go to the wider 10" rim.

Edit:

I run the same 265 BFG's on a +40 NT03, they are tight. I get a touch of rub in the rear on the control arm. Up front is a friggen' mess. I have trimmed the fenders and liners, I relocated the front liners more inward, I also cutout all the fender liner mounts at the lip of the fender. I have positioned the fenders as far out as possible given the stock mounting holes, and used spacers under the front mounting point. I still get rub right on the inside edge of the fender lip and various areas in the wheel well. I'm going to slot the mounting holes and get the fenders spaced out about .25" more.

That said I have seen EVO's running my same wheel on 285 hoosiers - but I don't know what it took. I think they ran a lot of camber!

I'm on Enkei RPF1 18 X 9.5 with a 38mm offset all around. In the front I have 20mm spacers with ARP wheel studs. The tire I’m running is a 275/35/18 Azenis. They currently rub the wheel fenders in the front. I do think a 285 would fit in the rear but you may have serious rubbing issue in the front.. Just a FYI

I've got 285/30/18 Yokohama AD08s on Enkei NT03-M 18x9½+40 offset. I had to do tons of fender work, but it does not rub one bit!

Thoe99 -

Is that an aftermarket wide fender kit?
Which one is it and how many "mm" wider is it?

It's Dave's fender mod kit. He sells them on this board. Cheap, effective, and reversible solution, instead of spending thousands on a new fender and paint job. It expanded my fenders at least .75". There are different settings on the kit for you to choose.

What Thoe99 did is similar to what I've been doing, although I'm focusing on moving the fender at the top mounting points more than simply deforming the fender in the middle.

Another point is that "not rubbing" is a very relative statement. My car doesn't have rubbing issues on the street, or 90% of the corners at the track. It depends on how much body roll you get. It takes 1.23 G's to make mine rub on my suspension setup. Most yahoos would say my tires fit awesome - but that's because they don't really get the suspension moving

What is the principle behind Dave's kit... bending out the front fender and re-setting it out more?

How does Dave do the rears?

True, I haven't run into any rubbing issues on the streets yet, but will stress test this at the road course this weekend. Before completely fixing all my rubbing issues, my skirt was the only area that would rub both on the streets and at the tracks. I've improved that issue so that it doesn't rub at all on the streets now, so we'll see.

Where does yours rub when it's stressed?

It expands the fender out based on the bolting points of the fenders, using spacers and tabs. The kit doesn't do anything for the rears.

So, if someone wanted to do the fronts and the rears...

Who has the rear wide fender kit of choice ??
