Rob, great videos. As for the Lotus, is it for Europe or some other place that it will run? Monte Carlo maybe? Would to God that I could see that rally!

^ Good stuff Rob. Out of curiosity, when a stage is held on gravel/tarmac, what kind of tires do they use?

Back in the 1980's, I was a certifiable Rally fanatic. Those were the days of the monster Group B Rally cars. Audi, Peugeot, Lancia, Ford RS200, Metro 6R4, Porsche 959, Renault had the most incredible cars I have ever seen. Crazy bodywork and massive hp made for lots of smiles. I still have videos of rally races from the 80's. They had to be seen to be believed.

My favorite Group B car-Audi Sport Quattro S1:

that is all depends on the organization. The tires is hard to say. I love BFgoodrich or Pirelli.
Tires choice is the hardest task in rally. There is countless variables which tire when is good to use.
Examples:
-Surface (gravel - tarmac- snow- ice - mud- send- clay etc... and the mix of these + the percentage of the mix etc......)
-dry or wet
-temperature (air)
-surface temperature
-distance
-etc.

So, if the stage is a mix of gravel and tarmac like on the video that you showed, would you use a mud/snow type of tire? I am curious about the tread design. Obviously, if it is tarmac, then a dedicated summer UHP tire would be used unless slicks are allowed. I find the dynamics fascinating, especially when much of the stage is on gravel with a modicum of tarmac.

Just as I thought. The Lotus is going to be for tarmac events like Monte Carlo and the like. Autoblog just had a nice write up about it: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/12/27/l...est/#continued
