Australian Superlap 2010 - World Time Attack Challenge
Australian Superlap 2010 - World Time Attack Challenge
Howdy all
I thought I would draw some attention to the World Time Attack Challenge to be held at Eastern Creek, Sydney, Australia may 21-22.
www.superlap.com.au has all the finer details.
I am surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, the entry list is.... fairly damn epic - http://www.superlap.com.au/2009/?page_id=2348
For example, from the USA
FX Motorsport – Honda NSX – Billy Johnson – USA
Sierra Sierra – Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9 – David Empringham – USA
WORLD Racing – Scion – Chris Rado – USA
And, a couple of cars from Japan
Tomei/Cusco – Subaru TA WRX – Eiji (Tarzan) Yamada - JAP
PanSpeed – Mazda RX-7 – JAP
Sun/Cyberevo – Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 9 TA – Eiji (Tarzan) Yamada – JAP
Pro Staff R-Magic Motorsport – Mazda RX-7 FD3S – JAP
FX Motorsport – Honda NSX – Billy Johnson – USA
Plus a whole range of Australian built monsters.
As you can see, in the outright class, there's a number of evos...
However, this event has 3 catagories. Pro, Open and Clubsprint. All 3 have serious evo representation.
I am personally preparing my evo 7, a daily driver, for the clubsprint class. There there is interest, I will go into more details.
Anyhoo, discuss!

Oh yeah - there's been folks anticipating this, especially when Sierra Sierra beat HKS' record @ Button Willow, or Willow Springs......

Yes, this should be very interesting especially if the big boys all run problem free

I've been following it. I tried to get people to help pay me to ship my car over - lol...
I read on twitter that Sierra Sierra just recently put their car in the retainer for shipment.
One thing I don't know is what the track setup is like? Like if it favors a more technical or top-speed type setup or what?

Yeah guys, this is going to be a MASSIVE event. I feel lucky just to be running in the lowly street car class.
As for Eastern Creek. It is a horsepower circuit, big long downhill front straight into a fast sweeping left for another short straight, double apex uphill hairpin left into immediate 90degree right, still inclining.
Actually, just youtube Eastern Creek, there's plenty of videos. Its not a complex place, but its quite fast.
I personally hope it is a success and the event continues for years to come. Time Attack is a good form of motorsport, and I like the freedoms allowed and the late model-ness of the cars.
Here's an incar from one of the local cars entered....

Looks like a cool event, I'll look forward to seeing some in car videos from the top runners.
In that video above that car seems almost too fast for it's own good. It appears to be so much of a handfull that he can't power out of the corners smoothly and has to wait til the car coasts through to the straights before getting on it. Maybe I'm not hearing when the throttle is being fed in but it looks like more than a handfull to drive if he's spinning all 4 haha... super short gears anyone?
