That's the same heater that's going in my car too!

Question - I thought that gutting the front doors wasn't allowed unless you are going to an FIA approved foam door cell? If I read the rule wrong, curious what areas you removed?

Rears doors are free to modify - and can even be composite now.

yes you are right, we did only modified the rear ones. And still yield for ~20 lb weight loss.
there is a crash bar inside and the window railing , window motor and mechanism+ the metal cover layer of the doors + harness .

i have no $3000+ for front doors to be lighter . It is just silly for me to do that, so the stock doors stay as they came from teh factory. It is stupid since there is the place where the cage is a most sturdy so i do not think it does any difference if you gutting them.

the heater box alone made around ~13lb weight savings. Not to mention the room!

Things just got even harder in open class!

David Higgins from Subaru USA rally team is running a Vermont sportscar prepped Suby in open class. "an evolution of Pastrana's record setting car"

http://vtcar.com/2011-06-10/2897/

I'm playing with the big dogs this event.

Any sponsors want some add space?

Sucks you guys have to run restrictors - that's one of the things that allows privateers to catch up to the big guns on a budget.

Best of luck!

I can understand the grumble's. .

I hope thats the case with the restrictor. I'm suprised how good the car still feels with it in. I think my car can be competitive on the tarmac part and hopefully i can just keep it together in the gravel.

Crap...poorly worded statment on my part. IMO the restrictors make the gap bigger between the higher & lower budget teams...sort of. You can make similar peak HP numbers as a factory team, but with racing its area under the curve that gets a restrictor car cranking down the road. A team with the resources to replace parts often will run a crazy high compression ratio, tune for the edge, and run aggressive antilag. This means powerband more like a diesel motor, but big area under the curve.

On the flip side, when not required to run a restrictor, here's what I've found:

You can choose to make power in a cheaper manner - a larger turbo. I've run against guys with full blown stage rally cars on hyper antilag, and at the top of the hill, we're always close. They pull out of the corners harder with the smaller turbos and antilag, and I make up the speed on the straights with a bigger turbo and no antilag. Of course the fastest way up the hill would probably be a large turbo on antilag, but then you'll be blowing up turbos and axles. Well, that and close racing is fun racing.

For tuning on a restrictor (what size do you guys have to run?) sometimes the key to gaining a little bit more power under the curve is to heavily taper off the boost in the upper revs.

We are running 40mm.

I am going to do my best to get as much Tq as possible. I don't think that high hp is really much of a factor as i believe the top speed record in one section is just over 100mph. It will be a matter of getting out of the bends the quickest. Traction doing that, is going to be key.
