Quote: It will be a matter of getting out of the bends the quickest. Traction doing that, is going to be key.
^ Truth right there!

Are you going with tarmac rally tires, or something from the road racing world?

I went and scouted the road a couple summer's ago and came to the conclusion that I'd likely get a flat if I tried non-rally tires, of course then the problem is I'm limited to 245s. Reason for my thoughts really comes down to my driving style...I'm more of a "drive my line, who cares what's in the way" kinda driver though.

I have a few options on tires. I'm more on the road race side of the spectrum. I' believe that the as long as you don't puncture in the very short 1 mile gravel section that you are good to go. I have heard just about every tire scenerio. From grooved Hoosier A6's to tarmac rally tires.

Personally i'm going run a 285 tire!

Oh, and the chance of rain is huge at Mt Washington. So, a good rain tire is a good bet too.

There is almost a no cut driving there as much as a recce video shows for me. Too much and close sharp big rocks on the very side of the roads up there. Fact for me the gtravel section seems the most secure about tires.
I was thinking to run rally cross tires but I decided to drop the idea , and go with a rally tires instead.

Agreed on the no cutting - lots of dangerous stuff cemented in just inches off the tarmac. I was thinking with all the frost heave damage on the road that a traditional road race tire with their thin carcass could even be a risky bet. A blowout on that road would require a new set of underwear for sure.

What rally tire are you thinking about running? I think you'll lose massive time using an actual gravel rally tire. Gravel tires on tarmac are great fun (read: sideways fun), but they're not even as grippy as a good set of 140 treadwear street tires and they squirm like crazy.

Tarmac intermediates like the Yoko A036 could be a good choice (that's what we set the Time Attack record at Pikes Peak on when the road was ~60/40 dirt/tarmac), but you're limited to a 205-65-15.

I've never used a tarmac rally tire, but I'd expect a set of those with some extra cuts to aid with traction on the short dirt stretch would probably be the hot setup. I think you're on to something with the rallycross tires, that's what the Unlimited Ford Fiestas used at PPIHC when the road was 50/50 dirt/tarmac - plus, they're offered in width's up to 245.

Glad to see it running Rob!

It was released a few days ago that David Higgin's is now running a Suby in open class. http://climbtotheclouds.com/subaru-a...ton-hillclimb/

Guess we can't complain about having good competition in this race! . Talk about playing with the "big dogs"

How about the entry list?http://www.climbtotheclouds.com/competitors/entry-list/ This is a serious Suby vs battle, with the ultimate proving grounds!
