I sent out an email about this a few months back. Figured i would post the thread now since he just posted his in-car footage. Here is his original thread with pics, and his in-car footage that he just posted:

Thanks for posting the update; it was good to see the in-car to get a sense of what "8 seconds" really is (which seems like an eternity on the video)
Couple things that I will do differently after watching this-
Helmet Shield down at all times- after watching how quickly the flames spread, there is just not enough time to flip the shield down...just one more thing to do.
Move my extinguisher pull closer as I kind of have to "reach down" to get it when harnessed in; also scary at how little the extinguisher did after the initial pull but it did help
Better drivers side net design- sometimes my net can get "caught up" a bit...no margin for error.
Practice Practice Practice!! At the beginning of the season I'll spend a good deal of time practicing escapes, but not so much during the season....
Thanks again for the update; valuable lessons about how being prepared can really save your life....
Damn, just......damn. Glad he's doing better AND rebuilding the car, good man
.
- keep a back window installed at all times
. I used to think there was a rule that said you cannot run without it but i'm sure that'll change if it isn't. Flames swept down under the car and got "Sucked" inside through the back window AND from the front somewhere it seems. Not a whole lot a fire system can do if the source is external to the car me thinks. You can see on the pic of his seat that it acted like a flame thrower to the top of his seat. Likely the flames went around and came through the seatbelt holes thus entering under his helmet and that spot on his neck. Deff wearing my hoodie even though it may be tight and stinks after awhile.
Which brings up another good point. Suppose you get a fresh air system since you are concerned about overheating with the helmet face down now. If you have one of those filter systems behind the driver seat, OR a system with a naca duct on the rear window.....either case would have sucked up flames in this instance I think....

Thank you for posting, really hope he is doing well now. I see that he has driven an event or two, but I hope his skin damage isnt too bad. Hoping the best and looking forward to seeing the car back on track.
