Official 2012 Formula One Discussion Thread
Awesome video. I already had great respect for the F1 driver but that puts them on a totally different level. Can you imagine driving at that level in such an uncomfortable environment?
I think Grosjean is getting an unfair rap with all the collisions. IMHO, except the one time he hit Schumi in Malaysia and another where he had a collision with Senna in turn 1 in Spain. The rest have been unlucky racing incidents. IMHO, you really can't blame him for Monaco, the guy was being squeezed and had no where to go.

With the hot discussion going on about Kimi and Lotus, might Kimi also be in the running for a different seat come next year? It would seem that some drivers might want to find a chassis that is more suitable for the fast degrading Pirellis than what they have. On almost every F1 website, there are many strong comments regarding how much people hate races being decided by the tires even though there have been 6 winners in 6 races. People want to see the best driver/car combination win, not to see the driver with the best tire conservation win. I too support this. While I love good competition, I still want to see the best driver win.
Well, we can cross off Perez from the list of potential Ferrari drivers next year. Montezemolo says that Perez is too inexperienced to drive a Ferrari. I guess I am a little surprised by this, but during silly season, crazy things happen. http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/...ules-out-Perez

^Yes, so Brawn's moaning and groaning about the legality of RB floor has been vindicated...they will have to change for Canada...it will B interesting to C now how they stack up against the top five... for according to Brawn it did add downforce to their car.

^ Guys, the one thing that bothers me is that the FIA is pretty much killing all innovation. Pretty soon, there will only be spec cars, much like Formula Ford or Formula Atlantic have been. It used to be that F1 saw some amazing ideas that saw the competition scurrying to copy them. Think Lotus with the ground effects or Brabham with the fan car or blown diffusers, F ducts, flexible front wings and now the holes in the floor. Charlie Whiting should make a ruling at the beginning of the season or throughout the season that a new idea is either legal or not legal. New innovations are what has made F1 stand out from the rest of motorsports. Little by little, F1 is become an open wheeled version of NASCAR...
Don't get me wrong I believe technical innovation should be allowed within the rules in F1. What I am not a fan of is aero technologies, such as double diffusers and blown diffusers, that disturb the aero flow of the cars behind them making it impossible to overtake. All other aero technologies that do not create great amounts of turbulence for the following cars are cool in my book.
Heck in this day and age with computing power being so cheap and powerful, maybe active suspension technologies should be allowed?

^This ruling is not about a "new idea" but rather a violation of an existing rule banning blown exhaust assistance as per this years reg's. All the teams have attempted to use external rear body parts to scavenge any exhaust energy for purposes of creating more downforce. These latter efforts were within the 2012 reg's whereas RB floor was not. Speaking of holes recall that Merc put a hole in their nose and innovatively and passively achieved more downforce on the front of the car when in different attitudes of a turn...the latter is an example of innovation, RB's hole in their floor, a violation of the rules.
