a real race car makes a better track day car.

I recently replaced my evo with a Formula Ford

I bought the car for around $10k then with the money I had left over from the sale of the evo, I bought a new trailer and have been going through the car to fix some left over damage from previous owners.

That said, this car is CHEAP to fix compared to the EVO

Here is a good example. This individual crashed his Swift DB1 at the track after stuffing it into a wall at 90mph.

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f163/oil-50679/

The car was repaired for under $3k

The car weighs no more than 1100 lbs and the 1.6 liter engine is rated at 115hp at the crank and they go like a bat out of hell...

I have only driven my car for a couple of runs at an autocross. Holy crap, the driving experience is so much more than anything I experienced in the Evo. It blew me away.

If you want that pure driving experience, check out one of these cars.

Head over to spexspeed.com for more info. You can buy a decent turn key formula ford setup for the average resale value of an EVO 8 (I did)

This is outstanding advice good sir. I have heard about formula ford but haven't really met someone who has spent anytime tracking them or breaking them or what kind of performance they have.

For what I am looking for I think this would be absolutely perfect.

i wouldn't want to run an open wheel/open cockpit car with other street cars on track.

I think, not sure, that's only an E36 non-M problem. IIRC that stuff is reinforced on the M3.
