Noise restriction at AMP

Hey guys, I am going to a DE day at AMP (atlanta motorsports park) in May, and I am a little concerned about the noise restrictions. My evo ix has a few boltons with an AMS turbo back with the AMS high flow cat installed. Should I be worried about getting black-flagged for noise? How do you guys handle running here?

You should be fine. You would only get flagged if you had a straight pipe. If you want to test, if there is any audio shop near you they may have some equipment to test db levels that may help you to see if you are under the limit.

Do you know the limit? My evo has a Buschur TBE with a mil spec 100 cell high flow cat and did 99 dB last weekend at autox (the car makes 291 HP). My brother's car with a straight pipe hit 104 dB at an autox late last year.

Hope this helps and good luck.

PS: I hate the noise restrictions too for racing. The autox track I ran at that had a 92 dB limit and was right next to a railroad track and airport in Louisville, KY. Their weren't any houses near the parking lot either....

92 db sound limit at Laguna Seca last Wednesday. I was black flagged for 94.4db!! My car is pretty quiet too. Some days are now 90db! I think that is unreasonable. I'm fabricating a "Laguna Tip" to help get past the sound limits next time. 320awhp (Mustang dyno), 3" DP, 200 cell Mil.spec cat. and HKS Hi-Power exhaust for reference

98db is the limit. Unfortunately amp does not allow exhaust turndowns for some dumb reason. You may be iffy.

Yeah, the limit at AMP is 98dB at 50 ft from track edge. Sounds like you have a very similar exhaust setup to mine, and you would be busting the limit. They claim to have "inexoensive" add-ons to help meet the restriction, but I just wanted to know if anyone had first hand experience. Would really suck to trailer my car all the way down there and then be 225 bux for nothing.

PS. I wholeheartedly agree with the comment about noise restrictions for racing. Seems pretty counterintuitive to me to only allow "quiet" race cars, if that even exists. Oh well, chalk it up to AMP being a private club with outrageous membership fees, along with a "green" mission statement.

Lime rock is 86db, and I pass. testing is done at about 25 feet during tech, but while on track its the "measured from edge of track" deal.

Stock turbo, 340whp through a Cobb catback and berk cat.

You should be fine. A number of my Porsche clients haven't had issues with aftermarket exhaust. And my Evo with a Buschur Magnaflow 3" no cat was fine. Worst case scenario one of the on site shops has supplies to make temporary baffles to quite the car down. I think MTI or Balanced does. I'd just call the track to make sure someone will be there to assist in emergancy noise reduction techniques lol.

Unfortunate AMP has faced tons of opposition from the locals, its actually a few years behind where they wanted to be. Regardless it's an awesome track and I believe they will soon be retrofitting certain sections with the highway noise barriers.

Cheers and good luck!

Craig

Ps. The paddock might still be gravel so plan accordingly.

The measured dB level depends heavily on how and where you measure it. You can't compare decibel numbers unless they were all measured at the same distance and angle from the car.

Most local laws will specify that the exhaust volume must be measured a certain number of inches and a 45 degree angle from the exhaust tip. Tracks will be measuring the volume a certain number of feet from the edge of the track. Obviously numbers measured right behind the exhaust will be far higher than numbers measured 50 feet from the edge of the track.

Thanks for all the input guys....I am thinking I will end up being ok. If not, I may just have to pay for one of those baffles or something.

If you know what section of the track the meters are, just take it easy on that section. I agree that these db rules suck.
