Fatality at CVR track day

Repost? A horrible way to be reminded about safety, even at your basic track day. This happened almost 2 weeks ago. I would have posted sooner but ive been busy and forgot:

Fatality @ CVR

Btw, trackhq is a great track forum. Even if youre not from CA i recommend joining. There are members from all over.

I had not heard the news until now. Read some of the forum pages discussing reasons for the fatality & the different types of harness/safety equipment

No doubt that even a simple HPDE can be dangerous & deadly in rare cases.

I would bet that the percentage of fatalities in HPDE events is lower as compared to say "Skydiving" (Approx 1 out of every 165,000 jumps occurs in a fatality)

So it starts off saying the driver got killed but it looks like it was the passenger/girlfriend, whom had to be "cut out" and air lifted originally due to an unstrapped helmet. Damn .

Looks like the driver was air lifted out, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. There will be some huge lawsuits coming out. Shame on the driver for not making sure her only safety gear was on correctly - and for pushing his limits with a passenger.

Would have to see a pic or video or something to determine if he was actually at the limit or if it was just a freak loss of grip.

This has already impacted certain clubs where additional waivers for ride alongs are now required along with some info on safety responsibility.
If you are of status where you can take a passenger in your car, you must check them over. For those that have been a passenger in my car, they know I will stand over you on the passenger's side and ensure helmet, harness and seating position are all in check.
Interestingly, I took a tall guy out recently and his helmet was too close for comfort to my roll bar. The next week I had my passenger seat brackets modified to lower my seat by 3/4".
If you're a passenger, and you're not comfortable, get out. Act like there are no second chances.
