Carbotech Brake Compounds

Put together a write-up of the different compounds Carbotech offers for their brake compounds on a side project I have going and figured it might interest some of you guys who like to stop quick...

A Look at the Different Carbotech Brake Compounds « TurnSix

Also, if you want to buy I set I do offer them:
Evo VIII-IX
Evo X
/shamelessplug

Interested in any feedback as I know some of you guys use the pads too...whether it's comments on the blog post itself or here.

A little friendly advice, you posted this in the Motorsports section, the land of Hoosiers, TT, ST cars being driven extremely hard on track. And you say you don't know why anyone would need the XP16 or XP20 in your write up? You think the XP12 is up to anything?

News flash, the XP12 is not up to running A6's hard during a TT session or extended w2w action. They are even marginal on NT01's if you are really out pushing it and they wear out in no time. I know because I used to run them.

I clicked your link to see what info you might have on their race compounds (XP16 and XP20). Not a thing.

Most of the folks in this section are looking at XP20's, DTC60/70's, DSUNO's, PF01's and the like. Just so you know

Good info. I agree that there are uses for the higher end XP series (which I mention later). I imagine people that need them though won't be looking for information on compounds but I suppose that's something I shouldn't assume. I may edit it some to come up with that. If you have experience with the XP16's and 20 would you mind writing something up quick I could use? I don't have real world experience with them and wanted it to be first hand accounts of the info.

Either way thanks for the feedback.

?? It's fine for me which means it shouldn't be hijacked. It uses adwords but that shouldn't ever show ****. might have something going on with your phone.

I used the XP12's through most of my HPDE days, and they are a great pad for that purpose. Haven't tried the XP16's or 20's yet, that being the reason I clicked your link, Carbotech's site is short on details of the differences between the 12, 16 and 20.

I have since used Hawk DTC70's and Ferodo DSUNO's. I liked the Hawks, but they do not have a full radial depth pad for the AP racing caliper, the Ferodo is full depth and seems to be wearing better and treating the rotor better.

Carbotech offers variations of their pads in the full radial depth for the AP caliper, so the XP20's might be something I try at some point.

The only changes they really mention is the change "initial bite" so I've always been a bit confused there too.

Hopefully someone with some experience with them will chime in.

I wasn't seeing this as I only view the desktop site. Apparently the ad server we were using for mobile ads doesn't have a content filter, and in some instances, was popping up less than ideal ads. I have disabled that. Sorry about that as it never should have happened.

Not sure how you got it on your computer but perhaps it somehow detected something mobile. Same as above, I'm sorry and the issue is fixed.

Looking to do my first hpde in a couple months. What compounds would you guys recommend? I was told xp12 in front and xp10 in the rear might be a good option. Opinions?

TIA

What track are you at? XP12's might be a bit overkill for your first outing but it's better to have too much brake than not enough.

Yeah, there are some decent braking zones there. Since you're starting out you can probably get away with XP8 but you might want to step it up to XP10 or 12 just so you have that room to grow. If you plan on driving them on the street I'd stick to 8 or 10 since 12 has a bit of a jump in the lower temperature range. If you're interested in some let me know.

Contrary to popular belief I ran 12's/12's F/R. After starting with 12's/10's. Our cars are already grossly front biased, running a milder pad in the rear just made this worse under braking IMHO. Going up to matching pads in the rear actually slightly helped front wear rates and made the car feel more balanced under braking.

I run 8's in the rear and 10's on the front. Dunlop star specs 245's, 3031 lbs, 350hp, and no ABS. I had no brake fade at Road Atlanta (not too crazy on brakes) but continous stops from 155mph going into turn 10 without issue, is good enough for me. Fluid on the other hand was lol.

Cheers,

Craig
