Hey Warrtalon, nice to meet you that day at NJMP (I had the silver VIII), and glad you're ok. Whole thing is a real shame..

As far as what to buy, I would buy something already built and ready to go. So much cheaper in the long run.

Buy a built up race car already, its easily 50% of the cost if not cheaper. At the end of the day the cost of stripping/caging/prepping an Evo is super expensive and you don't get that money back in a sale, so find someone who's done it right already... preferably a shop getting rid of a shop car, and take it from there. Even if you need to make changes you are already starting with the hard stuff done. If I saw the collected invoices for my car I'd probably have PTSD. Sorry we didn't get to run together that weekend man, but glad you are safe.

It has been for sale for a looooong time. I would email him and really talk. Personally i wouldn't pay more then 30ish. Keep in mind that it has $10k coilovers and everything else is very pro done.

Yeah, it was up for <$40k at some point and I was half tempted to buy it. It's a very well put together pro shop car at a fraction of the cost of building a car to that level from scratch.

Warrtalon, when you told me your car was at 374whp, I thought to myself, that's a lot of car for tracking. Mine probably makes 100whp less on track and is still a ton of fun.
If you plan on TT'ing and running in that power range a full cage is the way to go (IMO). Honda-guy and TeamForen are members on here with vast TT experience, maybe bounce some things off them..

buying used race cars is far cheaper, but usually the used race cars have far more problems too, or require a lot of maintenance initially.

we have an evo 8 here that was originally setup for NASA TTB, so its almost all stock. just put a built 2.4L in it though.... so its no longer TTB its for sale for 15. fully streetable, no cage. i can add a cage for 5k if you want. we can copy our latest pikes peak cage:

KevinD, thanks for the input. Please PM me with details on the car. I would definitely look at having you do the cage if I buy it.

I have decided to go ahead and buy a built car with a cage if I can find one that is for sale. Andy S is intrigued but unsure if he wants to sell - he will bet getting back with me next week. Not sure if CBRD will respond to my inquiries nor if we'd be able to make a deal even if he does. I have a local Evo 9 SE that is already modded with a bunch of expensive parts and a wide body kit, but it's not caged and not really built for racing (more of a street/show car with trackable parts). If I get that one, I'll basically destroy it, and I don't need most of what this guy put on it, but it's local, and my shop did most of the work, so they know it inside and out.

I have my plan of attack for now, but I need to find someone who will take my money.

Clayton, sent you a PM. My car is going to be listed for sale soon, once I can figure out how to go about it.
