street to track questions: bumpers, diffusers, plexi

I welcome feedback and input from those who have already done these mods. With what little budget I have to spend, I wanted to tackle some tasks that would yield better performance on track. Currently run NASA TT1.

Lighter weight:
* Is there a preferred way to install lexan that doesn't leak in rain?
* Where do you buy?

Aero:
* Is there a preferred front bumper for track? My oem IX isn't really offering best options. So many aftermarket options....wasn't sure if just adding a splitter was best WTG?

* I would like to add rear diffuser on oem IX rear bumper and a front splitter on recommended front bumper above.

* Does everyone eventually get wider fenders?

Size Rims:
* Seems most run 18"? I currently run 17"x10".
* Are 11" width getting more common on stock fenders?

Im wanting to make my own front splitter so I'm in for info as well. Would be nice to see what most guys are using with the OEM bumpers and also how they are mounting them.

Plexi yellows in the sun, so I wouldn't put it in the car unless its garage kept..

Thanks. Garage kept here. Mainly taken out just for track events. Can you install lexan in place of glass with roll up windows?

if you're not running TT3-TT1, then you're restricted to 275 wide tires, unless you want to take penalty for wider tires. 10" wide wheels are probably was wide as you'd want to go. i don't see any advantage of running 275 tires on 11" wheels. most prefer 18" wheels because tires are more commonly used across different platform, so used tires are easier to find. although 17" wheels are lighter and less chance of cracking.

I can say without a doubt keep glass in front and rear. Too many times have I ran into guys like us or Porsche/Vette owners whom regret going Lexan for the upkeep on track toys. For a dedicated team, full season, fat budget ok fine the weight savings are worth it then. Even with the more advanced tearoff's that's just one more thing to worry about now. Glass will be more rigid, cheaper, and simple rip/replase if it cracks like you're already used to. If and when you dive deep, then the upgrade will be just as simple then. For side windows all day long, gutting the doors for bars or in general saves some weight. I didn't bother with cranks I just use clips and twist locks for 'transport purposes'. I think you saw mine before but I can post pics again.

Wheels 18's are generally better due to the tire options. I have 1x 17 and 2x 18's with various compounds.

Rear aero is debatable. I use the OEM rear bumper as well so a used APR was a nice fit. The custom ones are great but for my purposes the miata's and TR's would eat it because they forget how to drive with bigger cars.

Bumpers...Sigh. That has been my #1 pain point cause I keep tearing the thing up. I started out with the OEM, then OEM+APR, then CWEST, then OEM+APR again, then knockoff Voltex, then knockoff with knockoff splitter, then knockoff with my own Alumalite which has lasted the longest. But now it's cracked (due to cheap fiberglass) so i've yet to decide to fix it or redesign yet again.

Genuine Voltex Front fenders all day, I'm not a body guy so I haven't done the crazy rear ones yet.

If you do end up going with lexan, you can scuff an inch around the edges with 120-180 grit and use standard glass urethane for sealing. If you need the edges to have a black edge you can then use 3M Single Step Primer on the underside before the urethan, as this will still let the urethane adhere to the lexan.
