Glad you won. Also glad I'm not the only one with horrible bends in my driver's side brake duct!

Definitely recommend a set of Harbor Freight pry bars for this job (and removing the turbo j-pipe for clearance).

Tomei scraper a no go

Looks like my rods are about 5mm wider at the potential interference point than stock, which knocks clearance down to .02” at best on each side of the scraper. Way too close for comfort. I don’t really want to try to make a mess of the scraper trying to grind it, so I think I’m going to put the stock baffle back in.

The motor turns past it, but I’m not comfortable. The openings are about 21mm. My old stock rods are about 15mm at that point, vs 20mm for my current rods.

I’m going to wait until tomorrow to button up things. Please let me know if you disagree with my assessment on the Tomei in my motor (or want to buy a Tomei scraper!).

This is why I like to work on my own car. This would be a bad situation if a shop just threw it in and there was interference. I did note a fair amount of RTV scraps had accumulated in my stock pickup strainer. Glad to get those out. Hope I don’t introduce new ones with my pan reinstall!

Another question: Any reason not to use medium loctite on the baffle and pickup bolts (not the pan bolts)?

Personally, I would try to open up the clearance to match what the factory rods had then run with it. If you don't want to I'll probably take the set off your hands.

Just take a dremel with a sanding drum to it, it'll be easy..

Blue, or the smallest drop of red loctite is what I put on those internal bolts, and all the front cover and we/ac/ps bracket bolts, etc..

Thanks. I’ll reassess tonight. It would be about 2.5mm of material on each side of each slot, so I think a carbide porting bit (if I can find one from porting my O2 housing) in conjunction with a cutoff wheel might work. The parts feel like steel, not aluminum, so I think the job calls for real cutting tools.

I agree, I'd be modding that and using it for sure.

Agreed too. The art of engine building is the ability to "do" all this clearancing so it's not something new for sure. If you really felt that way though, you could still use the Tomei baffle and ditch the scraper I think.

Okay okay! Tough crowd!

You guys convinced me to go ahead and clearance them. It wasn’t happening very well with stones and sanding drums, but once I found my porting bits it was cake. Here are some pics for those who like them (I always do):

Marking the areas to grind off.

Weapon of choice. These plates are clearly tough stainless steel. Dremels need not apply.

Finished product
