I never got the proper tool to test break away torque but kinda wishing I had one so I could have checked new and now 2 seasons old later. Its doubtful I'll take it out this winter with the CNC projects I have planned anyways.
I flipped the plates on mine for 60% engagement because I still wanted good lockup on throttle but really wanted to reduce the preload torque. Talking with Greg McCance about front diff before I did it he was a pretty big influence on dropping preload and saying thats when the front diff really became magical to him. Though he has the Cusco and can remove 4 of the 8 springs IIRC, all you can do with the Mfactory is restack the plates.
It's hard to imagine that the improvements mentioned by Dallas and giecev on the autox course wouldn't provide benefit for other types of performance driving. Main issues with plate at the front would seem to be a need to rebuild occasionally and sharing oil with gearbox.
this is the only thing that gets me. if i were a little more tech-y/mechanical maybe i would.. can't be good for the trans or the clutch to use gl5 or gl4 respectively

Rebuild interval for the Cusco is probably 20,000-30,000 miles on the street, and for how much I drive my Evo, that's 4-6 years, so I can live with that. And when I asked Jon@TRE about sharing oil, he had no concerns and thought it would be fine. So, I'm going for a 1/1.5 way, probably the Cusco.

For the front, the 1/1.5 way model that one that comes setup in 1-way is the LSD450C. I think the LSD450C15 is the same except that it comes set up in 1.5 way (but can be adjusted to 1 way). Dang things are expensive.

Okay, I see what I did. LSD 49 C15 is the JDM Evo 7 with the 1.5/1 way. JDM Evo 8 1 Way is the 50 C.
I forgot to mention in my last post that when I spoke to Cusco USA, they said that even though only the RS is listed for the Evo front diff, they could build an MZ or Hybrid. They discouraged hybrid for street though because the springs loose their tension quickly.
Also, there are some interesting pricing variations for the RS diff. Most of the USA sellers are around $2K, but most of the Japan-based sellers are closer to $1.3K. Its a big difference even when paying for the extra shipping cost. I keep thinking that maybe something it not included in the ones being sold out of Japan.
I have a connection for the RS diff at about $1.8K, but $1.3 is better. Looks as though Nengun Performance has them for $1380.00, but they are not an authorized dealer.

I ordered my Blitz IC from Nengun. Came express all the way from Japan. Good prices but expensive shipping and longer than typical wait to receive the part both of which are understandable.

...
I just realized that I miswrote here. Cusco discouraged the MZ because its cone springs loose tension more quickly. RS and Hybrid are fine for the street. Hybrid looks most attractive to me because initial torque can be set lower than RS, and it has a more progressive lockup. But probably can't get it from Japan at the good price because it appears to be a custom item.
Reading that cusco link, looks like cusco recommends a 1-way in almost every form of racing for the front diff of an AWD. So glad I spent $1k on a wavetrac...

More information on the Cusco LSD 450 front diffs: When speaking with Cusco, I asked about the C and the F model differences. The F has a 35 degree ramp on accel, and 0 degree on decel. The C has 45 degree accel/15 degree decel.
Not to derail, but of course after all this research it turns out that it's my TRE rear diff is the one that has crapped out, waiting for Jon to get back to me now. FML
