If it was just about having fun, honestly Id show up on 285 RE71s over a 245 Hankook. The kook might be faster 1-2 times, but they fall off pretty fast and the RE71 is going to be fun till the cords. Not cheaper in the initial buy in but cheaper after the 2nd set of "cheap" r-comps

Only problems:
1. I'm still on 17" wheels, so 255 is my widest option.
2. They cost as much as the Hancooks and far more than the Toyos.
3. I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up with the Atom on R comps.

Once I'm done having fun, I have my NT01s to put back on.

For HPDE, NT01 is a good choice because they wear well and are inexpensive, especially in 17” size. I would expect RE71Rs to wear faster and be a little quicker than the NT01s despite the treadwear ratings.

If the NT01 wears anything like the RC1 which I've heard it does it will long outlast an RE71 on a track

I only ran my 265 RE-71Rs on track once. They wore much faster than I expected.

How does the RC1 grip relative to the NT01? I don't see the Maxxis discussed as much as I would have expected.

Here's a small comparison of the RC1 vs the R888R and Nankang. Not exactly answering your question, but the NT01 was quite similar to the old R888.

The Maxxis looks promising. I've actually been thinking about trying them. Better grip than the NT01 and about the same price.

I was actually gonna start a new thread on what everyone thought on 100tw's because the .5 bump nasa is giving makes for a heck of a case. Here's what I imagine is the ranking:

1. Goodyear Supercar 3R
2. Michelin sport cup 2
3. Shaved Toyo RC1
4. Maxxis RC1
5. Nitto NT01

But there's some new players. Federal has this FZ-201? And Michelin just came out with a sport comp 2R?

- I've yet to see anything from the 3R other than ZL1 laps time but it looks quite promising. Still sucks they only come in a 275 for 18s.
- Haven't seen much on the SC2 but Mich stuff tends to be fairly pricey.
- Toyo RC1?
- I like my RC1, a good tire for the price but certainly not the be all end all. Mine are quite old, I need to check the date stamp but it's at least a few years.
- NT01 has good size selection and good prices but quite long in the tooth and doesn't offer ultimate grip but does handle heat well.
- FZ201 is actually a couple years old, sizing is pretty crap if you're looking for wide and have pretty much no data in the US.

I think the AR1 is going to be the new hotness for 100tw honestly. Their size selection is awesome and they seem to perform quite well based off what I've seen so far and price is pretty damn stellar. I was told ~$280/ea for 315/30/18. Little tip for anyone interested, the AR1 will not be available through any tire retailers. It's being marketed as a motorsport tire and will only be available through motosport shops.

Sorry meant Toyo RA1's, several million hours of data and people have got microseconds out of em. The AR1 is a shock for sure. When you say MOTOsport are you meaning motorcycle shops?

At the end of the day I may actually end up with Michelin full slicks, even though they have 0 contingency.
