Tire Choices

Haven’t seen a more recent tire thread, so let’s start a new one

I’m personally still running NT-05s to daily drive to the track, race all day, then drive home. I’ve heard great things about the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars. Has anyone else use them?

Who is running what and why?

For the 100tw's, I've heard the Supercar's fall off quickly (heat cycle out) and take 2-3 laps to come in so they're "ok". I haven't had anyone run the 05's recently, good to see they're up to the task. For most of us here it's down to where you're competing and in what club/class you're competing in rather then what's new.

The 05s are adequate for fun Track days at the price point. Not the ultimate track tire, but they have held their own as a track/daily tire. That’s why I’m wondering if there is a newer tire to move on to. I would like a tire that will not give up on me after just a few laps and not kill me in the rain. Any recommendations?

Sounds like Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec's are right up your alley

I had NT05s as daily tires. They were okay at the track, though I chunked them. I assume that's because I didn't warm them up enough. Maybe I needed another warm-up lap.
the last street tire I ran on a road course were R-S4s. They OEM size and still let me do a 1:45 at Laguna Seca. That was with an open rear diff. I have zero complaints about them. They were predictable and I don't remember them falling off during any of my runs. I pushed them really hard, too. Also, they last forever.

The 100TW version is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R.

The regular 220TW version is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3.

Supposedly the 220TW version is a great all-around, do-everything tire. If I need another set of streetable track tires, that's next on my list.

The 100TW version doesn't last very long, though. I wouldn't consider it for anything unless you're limited to 100TW and you're aiming for a few fast lap times.

If you want some tried-and-true do everything tires, the Hankook R-S4 is always a good option. Decent grip, good heat handling, and they last forever.

Literally any current uhp offering will be better than the nt-05’s

I second the ZII recommendation for what you are looking for.

So what did we decide here? RE71r, ZII, AD052, RS-4? Looks like the 52 is started to edge out the tired and true 71r's in recent reviews. I haven't had to buy summer tires for a street care in, forever lol.

A couple hot laps/AutoX = AD052
Decent also = RE71r
To beat on for 20mins at a time with absolutely no worries and still get to kinda go fast = R-S4

In my book, anyway.

For my setup I was going with either Toyo Proxies 888s or what I have now which is the Potenza re-71's. I am sure they aren't great for daily use but I don't drive the car all the time so I should be ok and should keep the car on the road with the power it will make.

Re71's have more grip for a street car. They don't need to be hot like 888's or NT01's

I thought the RE-71R was great for street use. I wouldn't want them on a long-haul daily driver or if I lived somewhere with frequent heavy rains. They're great for low mileage, fair weather use.

Agreed. They're still better in the rain than an R888 or NT01 though. NT01's get the ABS into ice mode with a quickness on wet pavement.

I know its an old tire now, but I really did like the RA-1 on track. Id probably have a set if it werent for the lack of big boy size. It was great in rain and dry, track and autox. But the A052 has replaced it for me.

With close to 1000whp with my setup I don't plan on driving it in the rain if I can help it lol
