Swan wing aero options for IX
Swan wing aero options for IX
Are there any Swan rear wing type aero options for the VIII or IX?
Also, I still don’t see much active aero which I thought would have been more common by now....for non competitive (no rules) set up’s.
Got a lead on a VIS Type V wing. Got me thinking what’s going on with the latest aero set up’s these days for road race.

There is nothing off the shelf available.
You're reaching the upper levels of motorsports, almost nothing that will make your car faster at this point will be an off the shelf option.
If you're looking for a good wing that will suit your car well you should get ahold of composite wing builders to get something custom made for your car.
Here's a few names that do good work:

From: Why do they always call the Evo the Dark Side?
Thank you. I will start digging into those recommendations. Has nobody made a undercarriage suction sheet? I still feel like aero in the wind is archaic for the limited time it might help. Active aero and underbody aero is so much more sensible. Don’t know why it’s so exotic like. When I see you guys build your cars like you do and SSB design improvements, aero seems way behind the times. LOL!

Active aero takes tons of calibration and refinement to work properly, it can hurt just as easily as it can help and quality actuators and instrumentation can get really pricey as well. And quantifying gains to validate calibrations can be time consuming and expensive.
Underbody aero has huge benefits but it makes servicing the car a nightmare. The matrix of performance vs serviceability vs price goes in the direction of up, down, up. To properly mount underbody aero you're usually talking a custom mounting solution as well which almost always means modifying the floor board of the car, not something many people want to do. It also often means significant modification to the exhaust routing to keep it out of the airstream underneath the car.
I've designed and built barge boards (rules don't allow flat underbody) for customers before and my first question is "How do you plan to jack up the car when you have to work on it?". Usually there is no answer because they didn't consider that. So unless you design a quick release system (expensive) or you run pin jacks in your frame/cage (lots of custom fab work), then that means crawling around on the ground with tools to mount and dismount the panels.
Something else to consider, is how efficient your aero is. Splitters and underbody aero are EXTREMELY sensitive to height and angle changes. When you are talking about record setting time attack cars they are doing post race analysis and looking at ride height by the millimeter. Underbody aero is designed around working within a certain window of ride height, the more narrow that window is, the more effective the aero is but also the harder it is to stay within that window.
With that said, you can certainly make a budget minded underbody setup that works reasonably well, but you're still going to be plagued with poor serviceability whenever something breaks and you have to get underneath the car.

Well, when you put it that way, makes me want to get into off road Jeeps. LOL! It all makes sense. Wish the aero game was easier for guys like me who are just throwing money at a 14yr old car for fun.
I took my teenage boys Karting this past holiday. Great out door 60mph karts that seemed well maintained and fairly equal. Had so much dang fun. Even with my +100 pound weight disadvantage, I still took the teens by almost a full second. Karting is always great fun. So is renting Razors and hitting the trails. Did that a few weeks ago. Reminds me there are cheaper ways than EVOs to have a lot of fun.
I have trans fix to deal with anyway. With the EVO on blocks again, I watched a full day of Chris Harris on YouTube. One day, all the news cars are going to have so many government restrictions, old cars like ours will be all the rage again. But it sure was fun to think about unicorn aero tricks for a few days.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break.

I think it's more likely that kids will be lapping us old guys in their super fast electric cars while we mutter something about engine sounds and the experience of shifting our manual transmissions.
Isn't that just relative?
. I'm not sure how much Id have to have just sitting around to justify a sequential. And I can probably get them close to cost with the whole thing being a tax deduction. Still a steep bill relative to anything else on the car.
Aero is also a really hard thing to quantify compared to hard parts. There's so much contribution from other factor that even CFD will fail to account for like the turbulence around seams or through the engine bay.

Are you supposed to get an auto loan or a mortgage for one of those?
Ahhh the joys of thinking your rich until you try and live your race dreams owning an EVO! I have nearly dropped the hammer and committed to the XShift sequential. But I can’t touch that cost. Or the added costs associated such as stand alone etc. So, probably a dog box from Jon at TRE where I hope my trans has landed. Can’t seem to get a response and his VM mailbox is full.
Zebulon responded right away to my search for aero. I emailed several or all the recommended vendors above. Zebulon is clearly top notch. Ryan has asked me what my interests are, car set up, and already got to work on a custom carbon design for my weight and power. They just ooooze quality and $$$’s. Love great service like that.
Question: when I had to shorten my springs for tire clearance, I lost most of my adjustability with the KW Race coil overs. Is this right? The travel I used to have was reduced quite a bit. I think the adjustment I have to work
with is nearly gone. I did get stiffer springs though. I don’t think I am bottoming out. Do I need to rework my coil overs with KW or look into something different all together?

A sequential is a nice option and will be faster on a track/street car. However I think all track cars need a stand alone with fail safe protection before that trans. If you lose oil pressure and don't know it , it will cost you more then a standalone. Or fuel trim when the fuel is hot/cold etc.
There are many standalone options out there for a few thousand+ ,its not a 10K deal like it was 20 years ago.
