Borg warner turbo sizing

Hey All,

Toying with the idea of a new turbo,

Theres one available for the right price at the moment.

It is a 9174 borg warner With a 1.05 exhaust housing.

Will this be too big for a 2.3l evo? Currently got a garret 3582r first gen making 500kw at the wheels and 750nm torque.
The garrett takes a bit long to spool and it falls off at like 6500rpm so want something a bit more useable

67mm? Too laggy for me, as are the 1st gen's. The 2.3 is limited to around 8200-8500 typically and those normally rev out to 9k plus to be useful. I'd be looking at a G30-900 reverse rotation in your application. Although the G25-660 has some pretty impressive spool/results if you don't need the 700+ hp range anymore.

Yea well to be honest i only run the car currently at like 18psi most of the time which is only like 500hp.

Only like the 30+ psi boogy mode for passing v8s that cant corner to save themselves haha.

Ideally something that would be on boost at 3000rpm and stay on boost and pulling to 8000 would be my goal. But i dont know alot about turbos.

I thought about just getting the new gen garrett 3582r but they dont seem very cost effective

Consider EFR8474..it makes a lot on top, but it spools surprisingly well, I will guess full boost anything you want by 4200rpm.
I can tell you that on 2.3 8374 is feeling well responsive at 3000rpm, and starts really hauling *** by 3500-3800rpm. I would say no real lag above 3500rpm, instant response and stupid amount of power. You probably don't want to maximize 8474, thermal load on powertrain would be huge.

For what you want you'd be better off with something smaller like the 8474 or 7670. Be sure to grab the aluminum center housing version too.

I went from a Gen I GTX3582R (6262) with a 1.06 a/r T4 TS to a BW S362 SX-E (6268) with a 1.00 a/r T4 TS and spooled exactly the same, but picked up 50whp. You will want the larger turbine wheel on the 2.3L and the car should be just as responsive, if not more, because of the twinscroll and will be less knock prone due to a reduction in drive pressure. I have plenty of posts showing street and dyno results comparing various turbos on a 2.15L. If your 3582r is open scroll the larger BW setup with twinscroll will be substantially more responsive and make more power.
