Buy/Build rear wing

I was set on getting one of these.

https://aprperformance.com/racing-pr...ustable-wings/

Looks like the best I can do is 1940$ shipped. I have not called them to see if
they would do any better $ without trunk mounts (or even do it at all, without mounts)

When a buddy sent me this site. Anyone ever use anything from these guys?

https://9livesracing.com/collections...ubishi-evo-8-9

Was thinking about trying to get just the wing, with no mounts and
eventually make my own frame mounts (or at least design them and have them lazer cut)
that come through bumper like this (again, my top goal on this car is not cutting up anything
that would be irreversible).

It appears this place will sell you a "swan kit" though, which kind of looks like
all you need after that is the through the bumper frame mounts (which I could build at home)
and maybe some X bracing. So for about $1600ish, I could get the wing and most of the mounts.

Anyway, it's alum, not CF, but it appears they have at least done some "homework" on flow, drag, downforce, etc...
(and do have a kit for an EVO at least)

Thoughts?

Hey, if youre going for the full Time Attack car, that frame mounted rear swan is golden & you could make it so it disconnects

But, needed is the front aero to match!

Reminds me of the old RS Motors / Andy S's car

9LIves stuff is good, Johnny runs a solid business and it's all made stateside, APR can't say the same in that regard.

Wouldn't worry about going through all that effort for making a custom swan mount, the juice isn't worth the squeeze unless you're spending tons of money on lots of other aero. If you don't want to hack up your trunk then grab a base lancer trunk to mount the wing on and keep your existing trunk as is, they're the same panel.

Already have a decent size splitter I'm in the process of making mounts now. I wasn't going to change the position much from where most trunk mounts end up, just
don't want to tear up the car.

Thanks!! Not a bad idea, but ideally don't most end up with mounts from top of 1/4 panel (right next to trunk lid), down to frame?

No most guys use trunk mount wings. The advantage of a chassis mount isn't enough to justify the considerably larger expense and fab work for most people.

Ok, will roll with the kit they have then. I do like that the rear part of mounts go to back edge of trunk and down vertical for one hole.
Does anyone ever replace rubber mounts on trunk lid with something like Delrin?

Yea, I used steel elevator bolts in place of the rubber mounts. A delrin bush would work well too if you can secure it easily.

Thanks for the suggestion on the lancer trunk. Found one the same color, but of course it is not the "same" color.

Got the wing mounted on the new trunk, but it seems like kind of a weak spot where it mounts in the center of trunk lid. Thinking of doing some kind of alum backing plates on the inside.
The center of trunk surface seems to push in pretty easy, just by pushing on wing bracket by hand.

This is where it mounts on back edge of trunk, again seems like at a minimum maybe a large washer should be on the inside.

On a side note, did get my bumpers and "new" trunk painted up. Color is much closer.

People already have enough trouble with aftermarket wings mounted in the stock location I'd be concerned with a wing like that without plenty of reinforcement

Yea get some large fender washers. Something with a 1.5 - 2" OD would help a fair bit I'd wager.
