18"-24" Diameter PVC Pipe

Does anyone know where I can get some 18"-24" diameter PVC pipe? Maybe at a scrap yard? Anyone know where a scrap yard is, or the name of one so I can call them?

Are you making a sub? You want sono tube aka concrete pier forming tubes. Lowes and HD sell them in smaller sizes and some contractor supplies sell them in the larger sizes.

No, I'm making a new boombox for next years river trip, its going to be my winter project. Gonna make one a little smaller and lighter. Home depot and lowes don't have the larger sizes. PVC this large is for main water lines. I have priced it online for 18" PVC pipe, its 40.00 bucks a linear foot, and I need 3 feet. Plus then I would have to buy a cap for the bottom.

Use a cooler. Waterproof (battery and electronics go inside), floats, seals, and has a large enough airspace to make good sound.

Use a water cooler (tall/round) for one that could fit in a tube easier.

Most coolers are not tall enough, to house 8 speakers, plus have room for the head unit. I want to be different. I might end up getting a 30 gallon drum. They are 19 inches wide and 30 inches tall, and round to perfectly fit inside a tube. But now, my problem won't be getting the PVC or drum, its trying to get the fiberglass resin to stick to it.

Don't have to go extreme. Any music over 50 feet is a $250 ticket.

Pirana,

That rule only applies on the Camal river and anything in New Braunfels city limits. We float out side the city limits. So no problems!

Resin's at Walmart... and it sticks to dang near anything!. Scuff the surface with some rough sandpaper, then go to Joann's and get some stretchy material. Sew it into a sock and put it around the cylinder (make sure the material is kind of taut on the surface, if it's saggy this won't work). Then apply resin to the material and it will make a thin bonding layer and you'll be good to go.
