NTAXS Winter Autocross #1, 1/17/2010, Pennington Field
The North Texas Autocross Series (NTAXS), presented by the North Texas S2000 Owners Club (NTS2KOC), is hosting our first of two events in our Winter Autocross Series on Sunday, January 17th, 2010 at Pennington Field. Pennington Field is located in Bedford, the heart of the Metroplex, on the southwest corner of Central Drive and State Highway 183. The entry fee is $30 per person and you must pre-register at http://www.dlbracing.com starting Friday, January 1st. There is no on-site registration. The event is limited to 60 drivers, so sign up early. Please join us for a great day of racing and fun.
The event will be cancelled if any of the following occur:
- Less than 34 people have signed up by 9 AM CST on Thursday, January 14th.
- At 9 AM CST on Thursday, January 14th, there is more than a 30% chance of rain forecasted for the event day. The allowable chance of rain can increase based on higher than expected temperatures.
- At 9 AM CST on Thursday, January 14th, the forecasted high temperature is less and 45 degrees Fahrenheit for the event day.
You get eight runs at NTAXS events, so you will make four runs in the AM session and four runs in the PM session. For this event, we are going to use different courses for the AM and PM runs. Both courses will run in the same direction and use the same general path, but we will make changes that affect how you will approach and handle major elements and your direction through slaloms. The courses will be changed during the lunch break and participants will be told at the commencement of the lunch break when the course will be reopened for walking. We will also announce when the course will be closed for walking in order for us to begin the second half of the event. The course will be open to walk for at least 30 minutes.
Your event performance will be based on a sum of your best time from the morning runs and you best time from the afternoon runs. This is the same as SCCA Divisional and National Tour events, accept we will have AM and PM courses rather than Saturday and Sunday courses.
8 AM – 9 AM Check-in, Registration, and mandatory Tech Inspection
(You must arrive in time to have check in and pass tech inspection prior to 9 AM)
8:15 AM – 9:30 AM Course open for walking
9:15 AM Novice Meeting (mandatory if new to NTAXS events)
9:30 AM Drivers Meeting (mandatory for all)
9:45 AM First car out
(Lunch and course-walk break between morning and afternoon heats totaling approximately one hour.)
4:00 PM (Approx) Final car out.
Car Classing is based on engine size:
- Class 1/1R is for engines under 2.3 liters, except Honda S2000 and Lotus
Elise/Exige.
- Class 2/2R is for engines over 2.2 liters, but under 4.0 liters, plus Honda S2000.
- Class 3/3R is for engines over 3.9 liters, plus Lotus Elise/Exige.
- Class S2000 is only for Honda S2000 on street tires.
Rotary engine multiplies displacement by 2.0. Usage of forced induction multiplies displacement by 1.5. (This is in addition to the rotary multiplier, if applicable.) Tires with a wear rating under 140 must use the R class.

A week from this Sunday. It'll be here before you know it.
I have some new sways to put on. I'm looking forward to trying them out. Hopefully they'll make me the fastest car on street tires. That is if I don't drive like sheeeit. I haven't participated since like last August - just before I broke my foot. I might be a little rusty.

I just registered!!
37 people have registered so as long as the weather is good - this event is a definite go.
Anyone else planning to go out there and get the season started early?

Had a great day today. Nice weather and no major mishaps.
We had 4 runs in the AM and 4 runs in the PM and combined the quickest time from each session to get the final time for the day.
I go 3rd place in class which is pretty good. I think I might have gotten at least 2nd place had I not hit a cone on each of my quickest runs. It was that one pesky slalom cone that I just got too close to.

Well, the results are in. I got 3rd place in class. You can see the official results here -- http://www.s2000.org/nts2koc/autox/2010_0117.htm
Unfortunately, as mentioned, I hit a cone on each of my fastest runs. I actually just barely caught the same slalom cone each time.
If I had not done that, I would have gotten 2nd place and would have only been off 1st place by 0.626 seconds. So -- actually I feel pretty good about those results.
Oh, and I also would like to add that I'm still running on stock boost so there's still more in there. So who knows, maybe I get a new custom tune from Kevin and some new sways installed and we'll be ready to rock.

Well Ken was fast but dirty dirty! And yeah, my star specs are from like last June or July. I forget really. But the tread is still good on them.

- My car only makes 185whp (on a good day).
- This was our first event ever on street tires.
- This was our first event ever on these tires with these shocks.
- We weren't sure what rear swaybar we were going to use until right before the first run.
- I was tired.
- I was hung over.
- I had sand in my vagina.
Overall, I was pretty happy with the car for the first event in STX trim. 1-2 in class and 1-3 overall on PAX index. Still down about 30whp and 80 pounds too heavy, but the car shows promise.
