Big changes for Evolution Dynamics!
Big changes for Evolution Dynamics!
hey guys,
now is a good time to announce some huge changes going on with us. we have taken notes along the way on how to improve business, make people happier, and in general improve results from the work we do.
to start, here are a few of the major issues i know have been problems:
- inability to get in touch with someone (we are busy and slow at getting back to phone calls, PM's, texts, emails).
- cleanliness... i know we are messy at times, and i know people don't like me climbing into their car to tune it after changing out their clutch. also, cars that sit at the shop for more then a few days always need a good bath, something we didn't have an easy way to do.
- long wait times and over worked employees. this is obvious.
- no dyno. it doesn't really matter how much you tell someone the results will be similiar, everyone just wants some reassurance the car is making XXX amount of power proven by a dyno sheet. this will also allow us to prove output by changes in parts.
so how have we addressed all these issues with one fell swoop?
we are moving the shop (again), to be in the same building as AWD Tuning. for those not familiar with AWD Tuning, they are a subaru only specialty shop. however, their shop is much larger then ours, has a big waiting room, and....an AWD mustang Dyno!! it is located off 407 in flowermound, thats roughly 6 miles from the current location.
in moving our shop in with theirs, we will have access to the mustang dyno anytime we want, and customers wont have to wonder what to do for the 3 hours their car is getting worked on (PS3 anyone???? WITH AC!!!
).
so in addition to the dyno, how have we fixed the cleanliness? first, their shop is much larger (4000-5000sqft), and in moving in with them, we are expanding to the building next door as well bringing the shop to 6000-7000sqft. getting all the spare parts off the floor and out of the way is a major way of combating the appearance of the shop (something our current location is definately having problems with). next, we will be able to spend more time on each car ensuring they are clean, and also cleaning up between jobs will reduce the black hand prints on the lip of your bumper i used to be famous for
(this issue also is exaserbated by me/richard being overworked)
getting in touch with someone... this is simple. AWD has an office with a couple phone lines (we are getting a dedicated evodynamics line). and they have someone there to answer the phone/email during the day who can take parts orders, put you on the schedule, and even answer basic questions. tech questions, or questions he may not be able to answer then can be forwarded on to me, richard, or josh.
the over worked part and long wait times we have solved by hiring Josh on Full time. he will be the primary Tech during the day, and will help get peoples cars done without having to wait 2 months. although hiring him on means more work will get done, we still have quite a few cars at the shop we need to work through before we can get back to short lead times, and same day service on some things (appointments are always recommended). with an extra hand in the shop, richard and i can focus more on tuning the cars and making sure people don't have to come back for a second visit because we weren't able to finish the first time.
what else will change with this move?
well first off, hiring josh and sharing a dyno means some prices will go up. in particular, its going to be the inexpensive installs that take way longer then they should (and even more specifically, i give a lot of handouts, i.e. free labor. don't expect much of this anymore...). also, tuning rates are changing from a fixed rate (300 for first time, 200 for retunes), to hourly. with the fixed rate, i would often times get one car done in 2 hours which is average, then start the next one which could take 10 hours to do because it might have tons of issues that need to be resolved. with the hourly rate, it puts extra emphisis on making sure your car is ready to be tuned before we strap it to the dyno. the new rates will be 125/hr for street tune, and 175/hr for dyno tunes all tunes will be capped at 500 dollars per map. if you have a written quote or already have an appointment with me with a verbal quote, i'll honor it.
next, the companys will still be seperate, however we will be sharing resources (some people, and obviously the dyno/shop floor). so don't be surprised if you can't get on the dyno the exact moment you want because there is a subaru already in line (and trust me, there are a bunch of them
).
we are beginning the move this wednesday before the end of the month. it will take a couple days to get moved over, and very likely a couple weeks to make sure everything gets going smoothly like we anticipate.
i really think this move will benefit everyone in the evo community! myself and richard will finally have some free time to make it out to track events, autocrosses and the evo meet we have been absent from for a while.
if anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

Dude, I only met you once but you answered my request for a date/time to get my car tuned while you were in Australia... I know of no other business who would answer me if their employees were on vacation. Heck when I go on vacation I take the battery out of my blackberry, and here you are answering work calls.
