Hey Acree, are you coming to the meet tonight? I'd like to discuss doing the conversion for my car if you are. Unfortunately, I won't be driving it as I have it tucked away all nice and clean for the Show N Shine on Saturday.

Excellent work! How did you get the needles to be blue? I have a GSR and I wish my needles were red like some MR's I've seen.

That would simply be an LED swap. The stock needles should be clear, therefore allowing you to run any color LED you wish.

I actually have been doing this as a side business for the past 6 years, mostly for 350z's. I've decided not to pursue it fully with a website etc until I graduate. I don't want to have the issue of choosing between studying and finishing a project for a customer.

With that being said, I always take on projects but they are far and few in between. Wait until I finish the conversion on my own IX and I might be open for doing a conversion for local people.

Dropped off my car at Acree's tonight! This should be good. It's going to undergo the same changes as Krisiun's except for a few additions.

Great work on the conversion! I know I'm impressed by the amount of work that must have taken.

Very professional work. All of the clips are intact, the panels are in perfect alignment. The lights are perfectly matched and the needles do not look as baby blue as in the pictures. I turned the brightness all of the way up on the center console and it was so bright it lights up the entire interior of the car. I have it set at about half and it is as bright as the gauges were stock.

All of the colors match perfect. I have read that blue fatigues the eyes less at night (one of the reasons VW has the blue gauges). I don't know about fatigue, but the AEM gauges in blue seem easier to read. It is hard to explain but they seem sharper.

I will get better pics soon, but all I can say is Andrew does great work, and he didn't even use a metal hammer.
For the record, blue light is a higher strain on the eyes. I believe the reason most cars originally used an amber / red tint was the same reason it is used on submarines / warships for emergency lighting: It is at the left of the visible light spectrum because the larger wavelengths are "closer" to darkness for our eyes. The strain is not in seeing the "darker" light, it is in adjusting between seeing that, and adjusting to see what is in the darkness in front of you.

VW may have taken the opposite note on this and used a less intense blue light that stood out more for higher "contrast" between darkness and visible control... or they could have just thought it looked cool and different

Precisely. Amber, Red, and Green (I believe) preserve night vision. White, blue, and purple do nothing to maintain night vision. Some peope say blue hinders it, but I've been driving vehicles with blue interiors for 6 years now, and I have zero issues.
