After a week of waiting my parts are finally complete. Working with a new candy red was a frustration for both myself and Michael at SPC. After some running paint, fractured looking bottom coats, and many trips over to Arlington, the work is complete. I am pretty happy with the results, however I was not very happy with the down time, but it is what it is. All in all I would use SPC again, the single stages and the ceramics are really nice over there. I am thinking of having my exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and downpipe coated ceramic black the next time I have down time.

Well, I had a full week to drive my wifes car so I took advantage of it and took off all of my engine parts and took them over to Specialized Performance Coating on Monday to get powder coated candy red. I waited anxiously all week long and today called only to find out my parts were only just being painted at 2pm today! I was a bit pissed off about this, seeing as how I made my wife stay home all week without a car so I could get this done, what a waste of everyone's time. I figure, oh well, atleast my parts are finished!
I called before driving over today and I was met with a "There is some kind of marbling effect I have never seen going on." kind of response. Great! So I sit in traffic for 3 hours there and back, I have been there 4 times already, and they never call me to tell me "Don't bother coming, I am going to have to fix it.". My IC piping and intake pipe looked pretty stupid, it looks like they rushed and overbaked the first stage and cracked the entire first coat, irregularly mind you, the effect looked pretty knarly had it been consistent. The valve cover had a half inch wide run from one end to the other along the front coil pack ridge and it ended in a puddle under the forward vent tube fitting so thick it looked black. The entire bottom of the valve cover was just rediculously black from how thick the powder was.
I now have to get a rental car for next week so they can strip the paint off of all the parts and start over, at his suggestion. I was scheduled to go to PTP tomorrow to get my wheels mounted and fenders rolled and now I had to cancel. I have heard nothing but good things about PTP, I hope this same thing like this and what happened at Cobb doesn't happen with them. I was also told that, due to the heat, stripping the paint off of aluminum valve covers may cause blistering. I am now concerned that I will get my valve cover back and it will be warped.
So far they told me I can pick up my parts Tuesday evening, but I am not sure about that. They were kind of bothered with how bad it came out, they said they had just starting using that candy paint from a new vendor and they are still learning how to apply it!

SPC has always been great in my experience. I've used them for over 4 years with no issues, sorry you didn't have a good experience. I will say when they get backed up, you do have to wait a little bit longer than quoted sometimes.

I made it a point to leave them alone for 5 days and let them do their work. I was told 2 days they took 5 and then did it on the last day. I had gone there 3 times before and I specifically told him on last Thursday to order the paint, I would pay in advance. Instead they order the paint on Tuesday and get it Thursday and then they do not paint until Friday evening. I don't mind them getting backed up, but for Christ sake tell me, "We need another day or two." Don't rush and cause more problems.
Wow, your luck sucks. I am pretty sure that they will media blast the powder off of your valve cover rather than burn it off. I know quite a few people who have had good luck with them as well as myself, so I still stand them as far as their work goes. Could they have had been better communicators, sure. But they are doing the right thing and trying to fix it asap. What did JNZ do about your strut tower brace

you need to sing rod stewart song....some guys has all the luck.... where is mine.....SPC is finding all excuses,,,it's the paint from a new vendor.....common, if they cracked your valve cover they have to replace it plus where is the quality control they should never gave the items if they screw up like that. i think you need 10lbs baby jesus now.
