Introduction and newb questions

Hi guys,

I've been lurking for a couple months just getting a feel for the community and enjoying my X stock (2008 GG MR) but its getting time for some more power, since I figure safety first I got an LC-1 with afr gauge and a boost gauge from Innovate and need to get an )2 bung welded on my stock DP to install the wideband, anyone have a good recommendation of where to have this done? I work in north Plano and live in downtown Dallas so somewhere around either area is fine.

Also I looked at some howtos and read the install guides for both and while it looks pretty straight forward, taking off all the plastic bits and soldering the connections looks fairly time consuming. If I elected to have someone do this for me does anyone have a recommendation for that and guestimate for cost?

Thanks and I hope to see y'all around.

Damien

Get a downpipe/o2 housing with the bung. Not worth putting into the stock downpipe...

For a start, you could come on by to the 1st Thursday at Cobb Tuning in Plano today at 7pm. You will get to meet all the NTEC EVO guys and you can't beat free pizza.

Rmondoh had a bung welded into his stock downpipe by a local muffler shop near his house. You could go that route or go to one of our local shops. Cobb doesn't fabricate/weld, but Evolution Dynamics in Lewisville does.

Otherwise go with an aftermarket downpipe as Goofy recomended or get a testpipe w/additional bung (or delete your stock rear o2 sensor).

we charge 100 for wideband installs which includes welding the bung into the downpipe or testpipe (if you have a preference).

if you just need the bung welded in, 25 dollars. i beleive the innovate widebands should come with a bung, if not i have those as well (although i don't know the price off hand...).

Putting that bung onto the stock downpipe was a real pain. You have to remove the bolts that connect the downpipe to the cat as well as using extensions and swivels to undo the ones holding it to the o2 housing, then you have to trim the heatshield on the downpipe where the bung will go, then you have to drill a hole in it just right so the bung will fit. You have to consider that you need to leave enough space to remove/install the bolt back. There's really only ONE good place to put it which is where I put it and it has worked well thus far. However as Kracka saw this past Sunday, taking off the nut on the bolt right by it was a little tight.

If I had to do it again though, I'd get a test pipe with an extra bung or have it drilled and have the bung welded on. Maybe it was such a pain for me since I'm a newb when it comes to working on cars but it was not fun. I'd definitely recommend going the "test pipe with extra bung route" as that will be MUCH easier and not take anywhere near as long.

Thanks for the input guys, sorry I couldn't make it out last night but will definitely be at the next one. I'll probably stick with cats for now as I'd like to stay emissions legal and quiet. Kevin, I'll have to give you guys a call as I need a stock baseline dyno run before I start swapping parts anyway.
