I think it let go while I was braking in the straight. You can hear some rev hang and when I go into second you can't even hear the throttle comin on. It was already toast.

Update:

#4 piston melted and some scoring. Everything and I mean everything was full of oil. Sill coming up with a plan. I'm really taking into consideration autox classing. I've decided to focus 100% on autocross and only going to the track for special things like Toy Run and Don Herring Track days. NASA will have to wait for a while.

I'm waiting on feedback from the SCCA to see if sleeving the block will push me into SM. Once I get more info on classing I will decide which direction to go with the build. Sleeving the block is a must. I'll update once I get more info.

Justin, I really am sorry to see this happen to you. If there is anything I can do to help let me know!
DISLAIMER:
I am not looking to get flamed, this is my friendly advice to Justin, if you get pissed because I didn't recommend a 500+hp build or a BSP champion car, please start another thread to discuss it. Justin is what I consider a friend and I am giving him my FRIENDLY opinion. Thanks!
That being said, I really wouldn't put too much consideration in SCCA classing unless you are going to go compete at nationals or divisionals against Foley and Wagner, not to mention the guys that beat our local prodigies by a second or two. Look at the local guys you idolize, see how they smoke most of us at local events and by what amount, then go take a look at how they do nationally, usually they get spanked as much as you or I do locally, food for thought. I for one will most likely not attend too many of the SCCA outings anymore, I am not renewing my membership, I like the format of the other groups NTAXS and BMW, which both are favorable for modified cars. NTAXS in particular I know you and I really like and even with a 2.4L build you would still be in class 2...
I mean let's face it, we are all competitive by nature, whether comparing dyno sheets, lap times, or slips. That is what guys do, but I know for a fact you love your car as much as I love mine. I know for a fact you do not get bored with your car like most do, Hell I am completely content with my car with full bolt-ons, just as you were. If e85 wasn't such a pain in the *** to get, i.e., not available everywhere, I would do that with my current setup, but Hell I have enough trouble trying to find a Shell station that doesn't dilute down their 93.
Many have said it, and I will reiterate it...what do you want to do with the car? If you want to compete, I mean really compete then follow the classing rules for SCCA. If you want a fun car, which I think you do, do what you want but don't go nuts. Personally, if I was in your shoes I would build it, toss in some cams, an FP green, manifolds, and stay on pump gas and have fun with the car. That will get you in the low to mid 400's and still be reliable. That is my build plan, many may knock it, no pun intended, but that is what I look forward to doing one day.
I would hate to see you spend relatively the same money, I know not exact, on trying to maximize for BSP but unless you have aspirations for national/divisional prowess, build the car how you want to drive it daily. At our full bolt-on performance there are still MANY cars out there than can and do smoke our tails...just think about it long and hard bud!
Remember...you purchased the car to have fun with it...SO HAVE FUN WITH IT!

Plus building a competitive SCCA car isn't just about the power, it's about the suspension tuning, balance etc. SP or SM is a slippery slope when it comes to prep and money.

National level events and especially Nationals is a giant mind job. Even after 7 years, I find myself struggling at some big events, and therefor, you don't always drive to the fullest potential. I assure you, there is no other BSP car in the country that is THAT much faster than my car. And that Jon and I should be driving to the full potential of the car locally where we don't have the pressure.
I would venture to guess that I could slap my wheels/tires on either of your cars and get within .5-1 second off my car. Within 1-2 runs.
Anyway, this is about Justin. I applaud him for making the leap and deciding he wants to compete against the best. Anyone can be a big fish in a little pond. This sport isn't easy. The higher up you go, the better you have to be to play with the big boys. We've all gotta start somewhere though. I assure you, very few people are going to compete and win at the national level early in their career. I know it took me a long time.
Back on topic, good luck with the build Justin. The car is plenty fast in SP trim and stupid fast in SM. You'll have fun in any class you choose and that's the important part!

Jose, I'm struggling to find any national results this year where I finished 2 seconds behind the leader. Remember, that national events are over two days and are scored on two combined runs. So yes, I may be .6 seconds back over one day and .6 seconds back on the 2nd day. This doesn't happen often. And is usually more indicative of a drivers mental preparation rather than their driving skill.

I for one never even concern myself with how well you and Wagner are doing unless the car is trashed I know you are all in the top 3, if not first, you guys are just a different breed. When I come within 2-3 seconds of you guys, I am good with that, given the caliber drivers you are. I am not jealous of you at all, but I do admire you.

All I meant was non of us will ever get paid doing this sport, you, me, Justin, or anyone really outside of getting discounts, free tunes, etc. Non of us are good enough, plain and simple, that's why we all have real jobs Mon-Fri. That is why it is called a sport, not a profession. I applaud you for having such a big ego. You are a great driver, you pretty much smoke even cars in F class. There is no question about your skill or Wagner's, that was not my intent at all to presume otherwise. I show up at events to have fun, see friends with common interests, and maybe, just maybe, get a podium finish. Not brag and boast about how I could out drive other drivers in their own cars or ridicule people that are just having fun with the sport.

Sorry if my post came across as an ego trip. I assure you that was not my intention. I never claimed to be the best. And I appreciate the compliments. My point was that with hard work and dedication anyone is capable of running at the top of the heap. And that overall car prep has very little to do with it. There are plenty of people that can jump into a car owners car and beat them. Jon beats me all the time! lol
Anyone that knows me well, knows that I take the racing seriously, but I prefer to keep it serious in the car. I'm generally a very laid back guy. Love to have fun, love racing and love all the people I run with.
Again, I apologize to anyone I might have offended or rubbed the wrong way. Let's get this thread back on track and help Justin get where he wants to be.

Jose, you are absolutely right. We are all doing this for fun. Some take it more serious than others. But at the end of the day, we are all just racing in a parking lot

That's not pretty.
