Couple questions?

Is there a way to get the newer Evo X's to read out Service Engine Soon Codes? I have had one come and go away twice now and its bugging me. I know on some other cars it will display out a few numbers which was helpful and im hoping this does the same. Also will this message appear for when oil is due? I have a service agreement on mine that covers this and im waiting on another 100 miles to take it in......My other issue is the TERRIBLE idle this car has with the AC turned on. I have a Cobb tune on mine and ive heard the idle fluctuates bad also on stock cars...is that true? Last question is what spark plugs do you guys recommend and what to gap them to? Im on stock turbo@25psi...

Thanks guys in advance.

Stock plugs, stock gap, go to Cobb and have Calvin adjust your idle slightly. The access port will tell you numbers with the codes and then cross reference the code numbers.

If you don't have an accessport, then any OBD-II scanner will work. You can go to Autozone and they'll check it for free. If the light isn't on, it may not be actively throwing any codes, though, and they aren't always stored by the car.

As far as maintenance intervals go, the car will have one set automatically to remind you every 5k miles. That doesn't actually mean you need it, though.

I had a rough idle before any tunes, and same idle since.

Thanks 4 the info, long story short I bought the car fairly modded from a dealer and I'm thankful for it but the original owner wants 300 for the access port that is a paper weight 2 him.....

Bro you a) ned to get on the dealer for not providing the AP and b) suck it up and buy the AP. Your car is not able to be tuned without your AP or you'll have to buy a new one for $5-600 from Cobb.

Imma be Tom for a sec... if you can't (or don't want to) afford the gas or $300 for the AP then you shoulda bought the Rondo.

This.

Pay the $300 for the AP, that's cheaper than you'll get it for anywhere else and you need it to work with your current setup.

or go open source. You can get a custom tune for the cost of the AP (300-350 i think from EvoD) and they will retune it latter for mods at a discounted price. If you've got local tuners, no need for an AP in my opinion. The AP is nice if you are in a small town with no tuners and want to buy parts in stages and flash the ecu.

Does the AP lock the ECU? IE does he need to unmarry it before he'll be able to go ECUFlash? I can't remember.

It can be unmarried without having the original AP.

Offer him $200 for the AP and point out that the alternative is $0. If you decide to go open source, you can simply flash over the AP programming.

I'd ask him why you didn't have to buy what else is under the hood.

If he's going to be a douche and charge for the AP, he might as well charge for the downpipe, the air filter, the....whatever else he's added to it.

This doesn't sound like a guy who frequents this board....and that's probably a good thing, because he's being a complete tool.

I def agree with most of the post above. Itold him recently i dont have the money for it, he also wanted to sell me all the stock parts which i recently offered to help sell on craigslist. He is a nice guy but if anything i may get another tune down the road. I really just wanted the ap incase of warranty work.

Depends which of our local tuners you want to use...

His car is already tuned, no reason to get a new tune at this point IMO. If he buys the AP off the original owner I'm sure Cobb would adjust his idle at no cost. To pull codes himself he's either going to need to purchase that used AP or spend $200 for EvoScan + Tactrix 2.0 cable. OpenSource or Accessport...both good options, but neither are free.
