local Pittsburgh Meet
Tim that's the same reason why i bought springs. I make it to one or two auto x events a yr at beaverun just for fun but nothing to crazy.. I dd my car and looking for a softer ride.. I'm also a broke college kid stuck with a $1000 car payment/insurance a month
Save a little while and get some low mileage coilovers. I paid 700 shipped for Megan Track's with 500 miles on them (hadn't even seen rain). Regardless of other's issues with them, they have been great for me - I think alot of it has to do with the installation. Really tightens up the handling and gives more feedback. I turned mine down to the softest settings and they ride better than my old Bilsteins and are only noticeably harder over expansion joints/giant pittsburgh sinkholes (known locally as, "potholes.")

Your not driving you car through a sink hole even a small one would swallow the front of a car (see pic)....and a pothole is not local terminology that is the actual terminology of what is on a road - if a sink hole forms you got problems

Ya, so far that argument is what has kept me from buying anything. I hate to say it, but i want to lower the car strictly for aesthetics. I dont need competition stuff while im sitting at a redlight. Coilovers - of any sort - would be overkill, but springs tend to wear out shocks and struts if they are not revalved. I'd probably end up spending just as much to either get them taken off, revalved, and put back on (or if they blow and i have to replace them) as if i would just buy coilovers.
I dunno, i have all winter to decide.

even if they can once you add up the exspense of having them re-done, buying the springs, and install, might as well have just bought coilovers.
trust me, you will regret getting springs.
used the advanced search and found a decent how to do a spring install.. instead of dishing out money for the install goin to make a trip down to sears to get me a few early little xmas present =) Thanks you capital one 0% interest credit card lol
when we did my springs jeremy rented a spring compressor from autozone, a nice sturdy one made from cast iron.
then we sat there for 4 hours drinking beer and cranking on ratchets till we had everything swapped over.
a little tip, make sure the spring seats correctly in the perch. you will see a small lip on the top and bottom perch where the end of the spring will fit in. to align the perches there are small holes drilled in them, line the holes up between the top and bottom perch, then stick your top hats on.
If any locals like the MR BBS SE wheels, i am currently have mine in the FS section.

I asked what tire size.....answer:
225/40/17 I nearly blew a tire out and had some old hand me downs laying around. threw them on, didnt want to go to the track with them, but well i did. On top of that i let a bunch of air out of them (were about 19 psi) so not only were the rims like touching the cement, but the front bumper was only like 2 inches off the ground now
I did what i had to do, and i couldnt resist the track even till i got the new rubbers, but was not in a hurry, because im parking the car in like 3 weeks or so anyways.

I think its 8100 give or take
Here are some numbers.
Stock 235/45/17 are 25.33" tall and 9.25" wide
mine 225/40/17 are 24.09" tall and 8.86" wide
Others:
255/40/17 are 25.03" tall and 10.04" wide
265/40/17 are 25.35" tall and 10.43" wide (closest to stock it appears)
285/35/17 are 24.85" tall and 11.22" wide
shorter tire = better accell but hits limiter through traps, and kills MPH vs a taller tire that has less accel and higher mph.
I just looked at a different slip from july and i picked up 24.71 mph in the back half with 235/45/17 bald tires.

Up for sale is a set of (4) MR BBS SE wheels. They have about 8,000 highway miles on them. Condition is excellent with NO curb rash. There is small pin head size road debris nicks occasionally strategically placed on the wheels. Nothing you wouldn't receive by driving it normally though. I was very careful with these wheels, and brake dust never sat on them for more than 3 days max at a time. The tires are not worth shipping, (225/45/17) and are not factory spec sized anyways.
235/45 = 25.327 dia.
225/45 = 24.972 dia
Which would not have thrown your traps off that much vs a 225/40
Lets take a look at this closer......by calculating speed/rpm with tire size using stock IX gearing. Lets use 8000 as the max RPM in 4th for the potential speed since that is what you claim you shift at.
- 235/45/17 @ 8000 rpms = 121.484 MPH
- 225/45/17 @ 8000 rpms = 119.7 MPH
- 225/40/17 @ 8000 rpms = 115.53 MPH
So once again you story comes back around - and you will once again back pedal your way out (somehow) - also you can actually see the tire size in the pictures you posted so in no way did u make a typo.....insert foot in mouth, rinse - repeat
