local Pittsburgh Meet
I think people were being sarcastic, and joking around (I know I was) about selling their Evo if Mike left (which will never happen). I know Jason, and I have been to J&S many times and still recommend them to people who PM me about my setup in the area, as a matter of fact a kid just PMed me the other day asking. My car is in a resting place outside of their garage still
. They are a good group of guys, know what they are doing without a doubt, and the cut me (and others i'm told) a great deal on two custom tunes.
Can't beat that.
Mike is just the guy who contradicts everyones beliefs about dealerships. He knows his stuff, works with you to get you the best price, and Mitsu backs his work and parts up 100%.
I have and will reccommend J&S to everyone who needs a tune and/or some good custom engine work for a great deal.

I kno alot of good mechanics. But, I grew up with father who owned an auto parts store in Wexford so I kno everyone who works in the area. That being said, Mike is trained in the art of EVO so I give him my business. There are still other guys I'd let work on the car but you need to earn respect ,not be expecting it because you tune or own a dyno. And I'm not saying JS is bad just havnt seen or heard alot about them in the racing community
bye the way. Mike actually hates us all! Imagine working on all these evo's! You would like to blow them all up.

Well Garrett u beat me to it my man. I agree 100 that if looking to keep it local u can't beat J&S period and also to support a local up and coming young guy who is passionate about it and above all just one hell of a great guy!!!
I don't get all the mitsubishi stands behind mikes work blah blah ya they'll stand behind it if your car is stock ya they'll stand behind it but if your modded forget it we all know that

Hahaha i was thinking this too but didnt want to say it. i've never met the guy so im not basing it on that but i would hate to be the person who has to deal with all the hard problems, even if i was really good at it.
One more thing about Mike is. He works for mitsu and has worked on more EVO's then anyone around. So he has knowledge and spare parts abound that if he sees something he dosnt like when fixing you car he rumages thru his spare parts to get your car what it needs. Not many other shops have that kinda parts bin.
Plus his customer service is top notch. Lol. He has made getting my cars into the shop sooooo much easier.

^^^ actually I can speak of a particular shop that had a trendous surplus of parts that when I needed another Tcase housing bam it was sourced straight to me free of charge sooo....
Most of my posts on this forum tend to stay rather neutral as I know how quickly things can escalate. It is hard to detect sarcasm on the internet; if I seem abrasive or arrogant please take it with a grain of salt because anyone who’s met me knows I’m not that guy. Furthermore, I am a therapist in a psych facility I’m not a trained and certified mechanic, so I know my opinion is not that important on a car enthusiast forum.
I think it’s important to point out that the evo does not sit on a plutonium dependant thermal reactor, but 20 year old technology. Given 8 hours on a Saturday afternoon, me and steelcityevo8 were able to successfully gut half of the front clip and install a complete turbo kit and just about every bolt-on part buschur had to offer. Working on an evo does not defy the laws of physics.
With the exception of the b series and maybe the 2jz, the 4g63 has more literature and parts support than any other powerplant on the tuner scene. Now, Im not saying hand over your keys to the village idiot and expect a viper killer, but have a little trust in some of the local guys. Just look at some of the insane ecu work that oxdead and travman are doing.
I have never had a truly bad experience with a mechanic so perhaps I’m not as skeptical as some, but I do understand being cautious about whom you take your car to. Every day, someone posts on evom about how some knucklehead mickey moused their evo to hell and back so the skepticism is warranted.
I expect to get flamed, but know that Im not trying to change anyone’s opinions. Doing so is an exercise in futility. Im merely stating my own

I don't think anyone is saying that a good mechanic couldn't work on the evo. Well at least I wouldn't say that. Hell I'm not even a good mechanic and I have done all my bolt ons, coilovers, wheel studs, and cams myself with the help of how-to's, friends and a factory service manual.
The thing is, Mike is local, has all the speciality tools and he actually gives a crap about your car. He wants it to be right and run well. I hated taking my car to dealer for anything until I ran across Mike.
This is America, take your car to whomever you feel comfortable with. I know for me, if it's something I can't handle (or don't want to deal with) it's going to Mike.

Like I said, earning respect is how local companys will succeed. Mike has been around for a long time and has over that time earned a good reputation.
I'm sure these other shops will also grow in the future if they do good work. It's just not a huge market around here and Mike has put himself in the driver seat for our local community. That's why we go to him. I hope these other shops stand the test of time and make a name for themselves.
