volcanic eruption has been the catalyst to end several ice ages throughout the earth's history. one of the most impressive was the super volcano in siberia that took up about 1/3 of the land area of is now Russia.
and what does al gore have to do with the proof or disproof of climate change? i fail to see how one boring **** can be used to debunk a widely accepted scientific ideal. who cares if he is a hypocrite? that's an erroneous argument and has absolutely nothing to do with the debate. it's just an easy out for people who don't have any real information to argue with.
i know science is confusing and requires a bit of thought, but if you look at the evidence at actually consider it logically i think you will find that it makes quite a bit of sense.
now we can sit around and debate causality all day long, but the fact of the matter of is that the climate is changing and we're probably not helping by dumping trillions of tons of green house gases in to the atmosphere.
you say it's hard to debate with people who believe in climate change? you should try the reverse. people who disavow it as myth don't even both to bring any facts or logic with them.
"OMGZ WE GOT SNOW IN WINTER CLIMATE CHANGE IZTEH FAKE!!!"
come on... seriously?
here, maybe bill nye can explain it better than i can:

no suv's back then, but there were quite a few large volcanoes erupting at that time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_Earth
Nitrogen (N2) 780,840 ppmv (78.084%) Oxygen (O2) 209,460 ppmv (20.946%) Argon (Ar) 9,340 ppmv (0.9340%) Carbon dioxide (CO2) 387 ppmv (0.0387%)
Carbon Dioxide isn't even a half of a percent of the total atmosphere, but Nitrogen makes up 78%!!! Why do you think they picked CO2 as the gas to go after? Because everything we do in life produces it. In the end, once you realize that this debate has absolutely NOTHING to do with GW. It boils down to control over your life.
I hope at some point you realize you've been lied to this whole time.
Plus, the reason I bring up Al Gore is that he's the face of your religion, yet he doesn't follow the tenants. Perhaps you should practice what you preach?
Interesting debate...the earth goes through cycles, why do you think they say-it hasn't been this hot/cold since...or it hasn't snowed this much since...get the point? It's our government's way of making jobs and installing fear into the weak minded or the uninformed.
i would suggest you don't go making baseless assumptions about people. personally i don't really care for al gore, as a person, politician, or activist.
this is just a futile argument. apparently science and facts mean nothing to the the detractors. i guess the fact that NASA has studies and data that support my argument mean nothing.
as far as practicing what i preach, what exactly am i preaching and what exactly am i not following? so far i don't think i have said anything outside of the fact that climate change is a very real thing.
if you want to get down to the brass tacks though, i practice what my budget allows. aside from driving an evo without a cat (about 18 miles a day which will soon be 0 because i'm starting back to working at home and as alternative fuels like e85 become widely available i plan on utilizing them) i recycle, use energy efficient light bulbs, and try to stay away from products and services that are grossly wasteful or harmful to the environment.
as i am financially able i intend to become a more conscious consumer and when i buy my own home i plan on converting it to be more eco friendly as my budget allows. not only is it a good idea in the grand scheme of the world, but i also like the notion that i won't have to pay utility companies for their services because i won't need them.

also please stop calling it "Global Warming", that's a misnomer. even though on the whole the earth is warming the accurate term is climate change.
thanks for the link to the wikipedia article on our atmosphere. apparently you should look in to that a little more though, seems i am more familiar with this topic than you claim to be. the reason CO and CO2 are singled out is because they're the most prodigious contributors to the greenhouse effect. methane gas is also another culprit, hence why volcanoes have such a pronounced effect on ending ice ages. an eruption on a large enough scale releases large amounts of all three of those in to the atmosphere. now when i say a large scale eruption, i'm not talking kilauea, mount st. helens, or even montserrat. i'm speaking more on the scale of this bad mamma jamma that caused the Permian mass extinction:

so you can get angry, you can pick a straw man like al gore to attack, you can attack me personally for "being duped". all that does is show your lack of understanding of the subject and insistence on clinging to the distorted notions you have conceived about how the world works in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
cheers.
i like we're talking about emissions on this board when probably 80% of the evo community probably run's no cat lol... just ironic not singling this thread but there are several other threads throughout this forum that talks about it too
Ironic isn't it. Though the more ironic point is that they own an EVO to begin with.
On another note, I placed an order for a JDM Rear Bumper and crash beam support. Hope to get those next week so I have something to do.

My uber liberal step dad never hesitates to wave a finger at me when he hears my car pulling up to the driveway, yet he doesnt recycle. I don't pay much heed to the whole "climate change" debate, mostly because I've got better things to be concerned about. All I know is its pretty damn cold outside and if it gets a few degrees warmer in Pittsburgh throughout the winter, I won't feel the need to spend money in moving south - thus making me a happy camper. Besides, if global warming is as bad as they say then we can all look forward to a sweet future of riding around on jet ski's and growing webbed feet like in Water World. Bottom line is there is not enough evidence to 100% PROVE that either argument is without-a-doubt fact. I'm just not very supportive on the passing of laws and regulations based on theory.
In other news, I spent way more on my transmission than I should have, but it should be super sweet. I ordered a Shep Stage 1 Evo 8 transmission with a hardened Evo 9 input shaft and 1st gear. Its basically like a Stage 1.5 I guess. I also went with the full REM micropolishing process on all gears and synchros so that it shifts like butter. Mike talked me into an Exedy HD twin - so much for going the cheap route. All I have to say is, this better be the sweetest transmission ever...I'm really looking forward to getting my car back.
