probably from your states Department of Transportation website. If you have smog testing, you will have to have your cat, and probably be under a certain decibel reading on your exhaust.

heres a few NY illegals off the top of my head:

removing your cat, any accent lighting turned on while driving(inside or out), tint on front windows(if its light they usually dont pull you over), aftermarket HIDs, having white turn signals on your headlights. low/highbeams any color but white or that light blue some have now.

as far as mods just make sure the part is emissions legal. most brand names are. but pretty much if you it doesnt make you're CEL come on you're fine b/c no cop will pull you over for it and no light=passing inspection. must leave your cat in though (or get a highflow one)

^^thats true. i run chrome to black all around and if a cop feels like pulling someone over i'm easy pray. have pics of the tint and it looks cool.

just did my g/f car and went with 35%front and 20% rest and no one has bothered her and the guy who did it said thats the most you can get away with before they start really hassling you.

search the web for the new york state vehicle and traffic law. section 375 is the equipment section that covers most of what you want to know. as for the window tint, most manufacturers have glass that's already at the nys limit. so basically, if you tint your front side windows, you're not legal.

I just got pulled over for my tint again, I showed the cop my SDA card (Suffolk Detectives Association) and he luckily let me go, he was SCHP so I figured he would ticket me because he's a... mean person lol. But he came back, told me that I can't have it... and he wrote on the back of my SDA card the date, and 375-12a,6-2 - SCHP
I guess thats the part about tinting? Anyway, he put SCHP so all the regular Suffolk Cops won't care. I still got my 2006 PBA card, but... I hope I don't get pulled over again. I don't want to pay a tint ticket.

any tint on front windows i believe is illegal i think 30% the rest of windows. Any exhaust modification is illegal wether or not it meets any decibal reading. Any stand alone ecu that gets rid of your obd port will fail ny state inspection.

NY LAW is 35% tints all around except front windshield. I think in every state MODIFYING your vehicle is illegal. Law enforcement dosent enforce the law all the time. If they want to be an *** about it. they can write tickets for anything you modified. All vehicles in the states have to meet DOT guidelines.
