if you have the money, Hunterdon county is really nice. It has the lowest crime rate of any NJ county by a pretty large amount. It has one of the highest average incomes of any county in the US. take a look. good time to buy a house.

Eh, stay the hell out of NJ. The cost of living is going up leaps and bounds and its not going to come down. Propery prices are outrageous because of the population, last estimate is 60% of people in NJ rent. My brother is looking at renting a 1 bedroom apartment in Neptune for $1600 a month!

If you want a great area to live, go to the Baltimore/DC area. Lots of trains to get you all over DC, and Baltimore is a great city with lots of stuff without all the BS of NYC.

To everyone who lives near Redbank, Yo. I live 5 minutes from RB.

While NJ property taxes are high (which is mostly apportioned to schools), compared to what you can puchase in NYC for an equivalent amount of money there is no contest.....

NJ wins.

FYI I work in NY and my commute is anywhere from 30-45 minutes, which isn't that bad considering I have an actual house to come home to.

If you are serious about buying a home or condo, co-op, or townhouse in NJ, PM me; I know two real estate agents that can help you out.

Good luck.

BTW, if you have a good amount of money to spend consider Colts Neck or Holmdel.

Just stay away from certain parts of Trenton, Jersey City, and Camden.
Ha, no homebuyer here. I'm not looking to settle, just changing pace for a few years and seeing what happens.

K, stupid question, every non-NJ person I tell that I think I might want to move to NJ tells me it's the "dumpster state of the nation". Is this somewhat true? It almost seems like LA where its either really rich or really poor. IS there no middle class? Sorry if this sounds dumb. I guess I am looking for opinions from people who actually live there(you guys).

Everybody is giving pros and cons but nobody asks "why do you have to move?" or "what is your business/profession?"

Like it was said, Jersey is not the cheapest state to live in and it's good to live in Central if you need options. However, depending on what you want to do, it might make more reason to live in the north, or the south.

And for the hating people, NJ is far from great. Govmnt here is playing catch-up with MA, one of the most corrupt state in the US probably competing only with CA and NY with CA being the worst by far.
CA has among the highest rate of uninsured drivers because they love illegals. Same people also help the hospitals close down since they cannot cope with increased costs to pay for free service for them anymore. That's why the Terminator is trying to make a general (social) medical insurance because they want to f*** the taxpayers even more. I believe MA wants to do the same, not sure about NY but I wouldn't be surprized if they did too.
I love Cali because it's a beautiful state but its politics sucks.

Dude if you hit the jackpot and can live in an ivory tower, CA is the place to be, otherwise I'd recommend to stay away.

If you're young and want to party, NJ is generally not the place to be, northern maybe since that's were we get the highest density of people/sq ft in the USA. Central definitely not (unless you're close to rutgers and want a STD ).
There's nothing in the south except for farms.

NYC is the party town but you better bring some $$$.

I'm trying to find a place of my own in nj. Sooner or later I have to move out. ^_^ But the cost of living in nj rent/house, it's like you gotta be a nurse or doctor to afford it. Blah

no reason to livein jersey unless you have to
Ironically, that is the EXACT same thing I tell people considering a move to Pennsyltucky. Friggin' hillbillies.
