Hmmm...not sure if it's an Evo design issue but I'm getting a lot of clunking in the rear out of my coilovers

It seems a lot of Evo coilovers are having the same problem - is it a problem inherent to coilovers or Evos w/ coilovers?

i get no clunking.

sti stock struts are susceptible to this- i think they used a flawed inverted monotube design. i had a set and they were a mess after like 6 months.

do they also get scoring on the shafts? do they stick?

read this thread...

Maybe I'll try retorquing the rears when the car is loaded. I know I didn't do this...

I have not looked at the shafts so I can't say for sure. They don't seem to stick.

you could pull the car up on some ramps and retorque them like that.

how do you have the height set up? sometimes, if you have them too high then there is not enough strut travel and the strut tops out when going over bumps.

Good idea, I will try that one of these upcoming weekends. It's definitely not high, if anything it would be too low. I'm at about a 1 finger gap b/w the fender and tire.

you could be bottoming the strut out- are there bump stops on them? if not, you might want to try raising them a little bit and see what happens.

every set of coils is different. i have a set that are actually too high (well i don't think so and my driveway doesn't think so.....) but they do top out over bumps.

also, solid strut tops tend to trasmit a lot more noise, so you should be aware of that as well.
