I do the same thing. It is not the air that cools it though it is the oil and coolant. Since we have water cooled turbos unless you REALLY REALLY beat on the car there is no need for a turbo timer. I might turn it on if I go to the track but otherwise it isnt really necessary unless your turbo is oil only.

you do a cooldown lap anyway, so even at the track, it's probably not necessary. just park the car and pop the hood.
