i just got a ticket

well i was doing my usual cruise on rt. 21 in jersey. i usually travel back and forth around my town when i get board in the early morning hours. anyway i was on my home and i see a bunch of hooked up cars on the other side of the highway so i take the next u-turn and try to follow them. i finally catch up to them at a gas station in newark and they were all leavin by the time i got there. anyway not knowing anyone there i still follow them, i figure i'll go look at the cars or whatever. i pull over to some kid in an integra and we're talkin about cars and **** when all of a sudden cop cars block us in with the lights on. they say all of us are racing. now i always thought you had to have two or more cars moving to have a race. the cop is a total dick take all our info and keys and throws them in the street. after sitting for a good 30 min i get a ticket for "racng on a public highway" and go pick up my keys off the street finding the remote for my alarm was broken because someone ran it over. i'm and definately going to fight this ticket but can anyone give any advice. has it become that bad that if you and other people hang out at 2 in the morn it can now be considered racing? loitering i can see but racing? no one was racing and no one was watching a race. everyone was out of there cars talking except for a few people. does anyone have any advice for me when i go fight this on sept 15th?

any witnesses besides the other drivers? that would help greatly in court showing how the cop was behaving and proves that he threw your keys in the street... otherwise its your words against his in front of the judge

1. Do the local police have jurisdiction over the highway?

2. Yeah, the witnesses thing.

3. I thought I'd have more points/questions, but I don't so I'm filling this one in with nonsense. Best of luck. If nothing else, try to plea it down to a lesser charge. What they did with your keys though is reprehensible. If they didn't want you to drive away the keys would have been safer in the officer's pocket or squad car.

92camrygts,

Here is some good recommendation that I've done for dickheaded cops.

Find where the cops stationed. You should have the cops name written on the ticket. Call into the barrack/station and ask for the captain. Any higher rank person will do. Just speak clearly to him/her about the cops behavior such as throwing keys to the street. You can also even drive to the barrack and ask to speak with a higher rank cops. Keep your broken alarm remote as an evidence. You might can get off the ticket and get that cops into trouble.

Hope this help.

Yes, do go to the station and ask to speak with someone. Just act professional and explain to them what you just explained to us, the truth. Flat out, the truth doesn't hurt. Don't forget to mention that you understand the cops concern and all, but you feel he just went a little out of hand with it. Just bring up both sides to the story and be honest. I guess if that does not help, speak with the officer at court one last time. Other than that, I don't know, but what I do know is, that NJ cops can have their bad days, and a few weeks ago I caught one on a bad day =/. I feel you bro.

"no". this bastard was lyin his *** off right to our face. anyways he took my friends id and after gettin all the info my freind takes back the card and this cop goes on a power trip. "DONT YOU EVER ****ING ****** ANYTHING OUT OF MY ****ING HAND LIKE THAT AGAIN!" and we were like "what the **** did he just say?!" anyways story goes on to my friend complainin about the guy and...the dudes at the station forced him to go to my friends house and apologize! HAHAHA he must of felt soooooo stupid, and my friend said it felt good to see him appologize cause he knows the cop felt dumb. anyways, thats my story on gay cops. oh BTW i once saw a cop named "Officer M. Gay" HAHAHAHAH. ok sorry for the long post

yea man go talk to the higher officers at the station, it does help, they were nice adn help let me off adn get an apoligy for me, because, one night me and my dad were goin to get some milk and eggs for breakfast in the mornin, and we decided to take separate cars because we both needed gas in the mornin for schol and work, so yea we are drivin in the same direction and it was misting, so i was following him in my wrx(him in evo) and we were actually doin like 2 ir 3 under, adn all of a sudden this van pulls out and made a truck had to swerve putting my dad right there, so me slammed on the brakes adn i followed suit, and because it was wet my rear end came out for some reason and all of a sudden a cop runs up, sirens and all and gives me a 500 dollar moving violation for driving reclessly, and speeding on a public road, i was so mad, and my dad got a ticket when he adn the van driver came to tell the cop that i wasnt racing because the cop said that his sparco harnesses were not approved for road use, and that it was illegal, we were so mad, then the cop goes and pulls a donut t leave smokin tires adn all
